Craig 80. Spelling (Honours)â€"A. Morgan 100, I. Berlimghoff 100, L. Easton 100, M. A. At Manday‘s town council meeting there was some disâ€" eusszion of what was termed the parking problem. The quesâ€" tion arose from the appeal to the council by the principal of the Central public school that the children of the school be prctected from the danger of cars parked on Spruce street rear the school gates. To the average man, and esâ€" pecially to the one who ilkes children and does not partiâ€" eularly care for cars, it would seem that no parking should be aBowed anywhere near the entrances to the school. It is surely not worth while to sacrifice the safety of the childâ€" ren to the convenience of any motorist. The fact does seem that the talk about the parking problem is largely a maiter cf imagination and thoughtlessness. It is true that the increase in the number of cars in town suggests regulaâ€" tion for parking on the main streets of the town. Perhaps the sofution of this part of the problem lies in the suggestion of the chief of police that a twentyâ€"minute time limit be plared on cars parked in the town‘s business centre. It is difficult, however, to agree with the cry that there is no place left for parking a car. It is true that further parking of ears on the main streets appears to be limited, but there is al the rest of the town to be used. There is enough parkâ€" ing space cn the side streets within a few blocks of the centre cI the town for all the cars in use. It may be necesâ€" sary for motorists to walk a couple of blocks or so to and from their place of call to reach their cars, but the public ear searcely be expected to be too worried about a little thing like that. A short walk will be good for the motorist‘s health, and with all the privileges the motorist now enjoys in the use of the streets and roads he should not object surely to a brief walk. So far as the school children are eoncerned it does not seem sensible to allow parking of cars anywhere near the school entrances. The town should have more concern for the safety of the children than for the eonvenience of the motorists. At the present moment most people would object to the town considering the establishâ€" rmment and maintenance of a parking station. In this conâ€" nection it may well be asked: What price is set on the lives and safety of the school children. There are more children thar cars in this town and even the owners of new cars will adrait that the children are by far the more valuable to the community. Chateauvert 98, I. Ukkola 98, I. Anthony‘s R.C. church, Timmins, on Thursday, May 1st, 1930, when Viola Irene DesJardine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. DesJardine, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to James William Tanney, son of the late Wilâ€" liam Tanney, snd of Mrs. John Moody, of Schumacher, Ont. The bride was given away by her brother, Rainsy Desâ€" Jardine. The bride was attired in 2 sand crepe dress and hat to match. Reyv. Fr. Theriault was the officiating clergyman. Only the relatives of the two families were present as Mr. Desâ€" Jardine, the bride‘s father, is in the Muskoka hospital at present, and her o‘:dest brother is in St. Mary‘s hospital at Timmins suffering with a broken hip from an accident at the Hollinger. After the wedding ceremony a lovely wedding breakfast was served by the bride‘s mother at her home, 109 Balâ€" sam street, Timmins. At present Mr. and Mrs. Tanney are residing with the bride‘s mother but intend later to take up residence in Timmins. Their friends in the camp will extend sintere: good wishes to the young couple. ‘ The Kirkland Lake Kiwanis are planâ€" ning a big summer carnival for June Oth, 10th. dollars in cash was the amount secured by the robber or robbers. ANTEONY‘S CHURCH GN THURSDAY, MAY 1 The letter sent to the town council by the post office deâ€" partment in reply to the recent resolution from the council asking for proper mail service from Timmins to Toronto apâ€" pears to deliberately misrepresent the case presented by the ccuncil. The suggestion is made that the council is asking for a double mail service to Toronto. What the council asked for is what the board of trade and the business men of the district require, a proper daily mail service to Toâ€" ronto. The service at present is designed for the advanâ€" tage of mail going to Montreal and the East. What is reâ€" quired is a service that will provide for Toronto and the south. Train No. 46 provided such a service. This service was discontinued last month, and what all in the North are asking is that the mail service be put back on No. 46 for the carrying of mail to Toronto. Under the present plan business men lose more than a day before letters from Toronto can be answered. Even a mail box on No. 46 would be a help but that has been taken off. In answer to the reply of the post office department to the council and the board of trade it may be said that no one is asking for two mail services to Toronto. What is required is one mail service that will fit the needs. No one wants to interfere with the train now carrying the Montreal mail. What is asked is that the Toronto train carry mail for Toronto. This is a basic service and the post office department is not playâ€" ing fairly to discontinue it. Jos. A. Bradette, M.P., has reâ€" ferred to the request as a very reasonable one and one that should be granted. The Government is not showing proper deference to the member nor fairness to the people in conâ€" tinuing to deprive the people of the proper mail service to Toronto. ad, as well as the Ferguson highway will be available for traffic earlier in the spring and in better condition all summer. This week a Timmins citizen drove his car up from North Bay to Porquis Junction and found the road very good. He left his car at the Junction, however, not trusting the idea of risking a good car on the roadway between Porquis and Timmins. On the other hand a driver for the New Transâ€" fer brought a big truck from New Liskeard to Timmins in nine hours this week and found the road very good all the way for the time of year. He said there were only two bad spots on the Porquisâ€"Timmins roads, one this side of Hoyle and the other near Golden City. The Government had teams at both these bad spots, so there was no danger of the road proving impassable. Parts of the roadway between here and Porquis are to be widened this year, with deeper ditches and so will be much improved. It is hoped now that sefore many more years the Porquis Junction to Timmins Under the provisions of The Ontario Companies Act, Paymaster Consoliâ€" dated Mines, Limited hereby gives pubâ€" lice notice that it has enacted a Byâ€" law for the purpose of changing the Head Office of the Company from the City of Toronto to the Mine Office of the Company in the District of Tisdale, of which the following is a true copy: â€" "WHEREAS the Head Office of Payâ€" master Consolidated Mines, Limited is in the City of Toronto, County of York and Province of Ontario.
