Another matter engaging the attenâ€" tion of the St. John Ambulance Briâ€" zade at present is the question of securâ€" ing and maintaining an ambulance serâ€" vice for the town. Plans are beins made now to secure a suitable ambul-l ance and the St. John Ambulance Briâ€" gade is ready to give an ambulancel service in case the ambulance is securâ€" ed as expected. The need for an am-' bulance for town use has been apparâ€" _ent o na great number of recont occasâ€" ions. In the case of accidents on the| roadsâ€"and there are enough of themâ€" an ambulance appears to be indisponâ€" sable. One recent case illustrates the value of the proposed ambulance serâ€"| vice. This was a case where a man susâ€" | tained what is believed to have been| a simple fracture of the leg. He had | to be taken to the hospital in an ordinâ€" ’ ary car and had not the advantages of any skilled attention until hss reached the hospital. At the hospital it was found that he was ‘suffering from a compound fracture of the leg and eventually it was necessary to ampuâ€" tate the leg. Had there been ambulance service available for this man he would undoubtedly have saved his leg as well as considerable extra suffering, as the compound fracture devcloped from the lack of just the sort of skilled service and safe conveyance that would be proâ€" vided by proposed ambulance service. Accordingly, The Advance feels there is every justification to urge every | sible support to the St. John Ambulanc» l Brigade in all its efforts and especially in such works as that of securing serâ€" | vice for the town. ! en The St. John Ambulance Brigade is at present seeking extended finance for various worthy cbhjects in connecticn with the good work being carried on by the organization. There is further eâ€" quipment and cother expense in conâ€" nection with the medical comforts station. The ‘benefits to the public from the medical comforts station have been many and noteworthy and the brigade on this account alone~should receive the very heartiest support. The St. John Ambulance Brigade inâ€" tend to have a public drawing on May 24th to award the elegant Westingâ€" house Consuelo radio now on exhibition at the Geo. Taylor Hardware store. Tickets for contributions to the Ambuâ€" ance Brigade may be obtained at the store or from any member of the briâ€" gade. A Chinaman was charged with wilâ€" fully doing damage to property at one of the town cafes, but the case was withdrawn when a settlement was made out of court in the matter of the damâ€" ages occurring. A man who was brought back from Montreal on a charge of nonâ€"support of his wife and family exp:ained to the court that he was ready to keep family at Montreal where he was working at good wages but his wife refused to go to Montreal with him, while she would not allow him to take the children. The magistrate explained to the woman that she was supposed to live where her husband desired and that if she refused to accompany him she would lose her right to his support. Unless she was able to support the children she would also naturally lose them too. He adâ€" vised the couple to make up their difâ€" ferences and adjourned the court tco allow time for this to be done. When court was called again the couple had wisely and properly arrived at an agreement in the matter and the family has been receiving relief from the husband has a good position and where he can support his own family. The family has een receiving relief from the town and it was felt that this could not be continued uunder cireumstances such as those outlined, the father being able to contribute to the support of the family Ambulance Brigade to Award Radio on May 24 a heavy fine. In police court here Thos. Feldman suffered both this week. He was charged with speeding and there were previous convictions against him while the police suggested that he was a persistent offender in regard to speed and lack of the desired care in driving. ~Magistrate Atkinson imposed a fine of $50.00 and costs and also took up his driver‘s license for a period of two months. Another speeder for a first offence paid $10.00 and costs. A charge of reckless driving against anâ€" other man was remanded for a week. Mrs. Alice Therrien on the charge oi driving a motor car without an operâ€" ator‘s license was fined $20.00 and costs, while on another charge of reckless driving the penalty was $50.00 and costs, the total expense to the ladv beâ€" ing an even $90.00.. Mrs. Therrien was the lady who crashed into a pole ncar the Pioneer Stores, Schumacher, a couâ€" ple of weeks ago, smashing the car, and the pole, and receiving some minor injuries herself. At the same court an ordinary drunk paid $10.00 and costs, while a man who gave a wrong address when he secured his liquor permit was assessed $100.00 and costs. Those who are inclined to take a chance on speeding even after one or more convictions are registered against them should take warning from the case in police court this week. To many speedy or reckless drivers the taking away of their operator‘s license is more serious punishment than even HEAVY FINE FOR SPEEDING AND LIGENSE SUSPENDED ("Chanticleer" in the Daily Herald) The Naval Conference has produced one good story. An enthusiastic Amâ€" erican sought a personal introduction to Signor Grandi. Finally his ambition was gratified, and with a face all beams he wrung the hand of the young Italian delegate. "I think you‘re doing fine, Mr. Grandi," he said, "but, say, you‘re givin‘ the British a dotta trouble way cyer in India, aren‘t you?" n.lllf/.ll?fllflflfl’#flfi@’l?fl#’lll?l’fllfll’fl’uflfif’%’lilf/fl.
