There has also been great interest in these articles, dents of the district. inere nas aliso been great interest in these articles, one reference giving rise to another, and readers doing their part to keep up the interest. The most of those with collections of old and rare coins have expressed curiosity as to whether any of them were valuable or not, though none of them were anxious to part with any of their coins or tokens, most of them being keepsakes coming down to them from older ones in the family. It is likely that some of the coins noted in recent issues of The Advance are valuable, and there would seem to be a possible field here for old coin collecâ€" tors. In the meantime the following paragraph is given from last week‘s issue of The Huntingdon Gleaner to show the value that may be attained by the odd old coin on occasion:â€" "Back in 1849 when the gold rush to California filled the imagination of the dayv. cash money was scarce and someâ€" ATTENDING ANNUAL MOOSE CONVENTION IN DETROIT engraved on the face a shield of a cowâ€" boy throwing a lariat, on the reverse a bear. This coin while much admired, was valued at $5.00 and was accepted as such which, bearing in mind the prices of that day, ,was not so much. The other day the same coin was put up for auction in New York and an expert, buying for a private collector, secured the coin for $7,9800. This is a fairly good return for an investment, even on the basis of compounding interest."
