Nicol, a reporter on The Sudbury Star, in seeking inforâ€" mation on municipal affairs got into a crash with the mayor of the town on the matter. The mayor considered the reporter altogether too inquisitive and ordered the newspaperman from the municipal building. He refused to go, and the chief of police being sext for, gave it as his opinion that the mayor could not forbid the reporter access to the building. In the squable that deâ€" veloped between the mayor and the newspaperman, Mayor Bibby claimed that the reporter used abusive languâ€" age to him and a charge was laid charging Nicol with loitering in a public place and acting in.an improper way, or words to that effect. On the stand the reporter admitted calling the mayor a blank sort of a liar, but said this ocâ€" curred only after Mayor Bibby had called the newspaperman a liar, withâ€" out the blank. After hearing the eviâ€" dence the magistrate remanded the case for judgment. On giving out his judgment in the case Magistrate Mcâ€" Kessock dismissed the charge laid by Mayor Bibby. The magistrate held that the reporter was clearly within his rights and was performing his duty both, during the council meeting and after adjournment of council when the flareâ€"up occurred. Third Class Honoursâ€"J. Harris 65, Second Class Honoursâ€"F. Calverley
