The Leâ€" igion felt that the article in question | was disloyal and altogether objectionâ€" | able, and the soldiers called upon the authorities to take proper action in the matter. It was through the loyal atâ€" titude of The Sudbury Star and the Canadian Legion that the authorities took up the matter. As a result of the enquiry and investigation carried on ’by the authorities Arvo Vaaro, the ediâ€" tor of "Vapaus" was arrested on a charge of publishing seditious slander with reference to His Majesty King 'George and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Vaaro was remgnded a week on $10,000 bail put up by the manager of ‘"Vapaurs." Another resolution, passed by the meetâ€" ing, called on the Sudbury town council to call a maSss meeting of all, the loyal subjects of the district to express their disapproval of the disloyal and treasonâ€" able sentiments. ‘"Whereas in a Finnish newspaper, published in Sudbury under the name of Vapaus, in the issue of December 4, 1928, there appeared a leading editoriâ€" The main resoultion passed by the Legion in regard to "Vapaus" and its activities was as follows:â€" The Legion asked further investigation of the Finnish paper "Vapaus," and those behind it, and also a full enquiry into the conduct and teaching of the school known as the Pioneer school or Young Pioneers, organized in Sudbury. One speaker said that he had heard that some of the Reds boasted that they had 4000 Finnish radicals at Sudbury now and as many more coming and that in time they would crowd all others out of the district. At the legion meeting there was much indignation at the article complained of, and also protest against the "Red" schools conducted to teach children to disregard the Government and religion. Gordon Wallace Watt ... Lang ... Smith Grant ;. McAskill He was the proud possessor of three pleasures that of receiving, of givins, and the ever blessed pleasure of a hapâ€" py memory. "It was the day ofter Christmas thar I came upon him again, hanging about the streets with that same old look of a beggar about him. That is, in all but his eyes; they, I think, were never quite the same again. They fairly shone when he lifted them to my face in recognition. ‘Good morning, Joe,‘ said I, ‘what have you done with your toys?‘ "Imagine my surprise when he said, ‘I give ‘em to Jack Parker, the coloured boy, over yonder to scruff Town.‘ "*What?‘ said I, ‘you have given them all away? All your beautiful toys?‘ He was silent a moment. and then his ragâ€"= ged little face glowed as he replied ; "‘I had em; I had ‘em a whole day. I aint got ‘em any more, but I had em anyhow.‘" ‘"There was a kmd of awe in his solemn, earnest eyves," said the lady, "as though the joy of possession had strickâ€" en him dumb. "Prudence," said she, in speaking of the matter afterward, "might have sugâ€" gested food and clothes. But another idea had taken possession of me. I determined then and there that that boy should know the blessedness of happy childhood for one Christmas at all events." On the impulse she called him in. Toys, a wagon, an iron horse with a fAlying driver madly sounding a fireâ€" alarm, a drum with gilded sticks, a tin horn, a pack of firecrackers, things which his povertyâ€"blinded eyes RHad never before looked upon in the light of real possession, were put into his hands. There was a lady in the shop, deeply engaged in purchasing gifts for her small nieces and nephews. She saw the waif at the windowâ€"ragged, haliâ€" clad, and without doubt halfâ€"starved as well. This appealing little Christmas story is told by The Acton Free Press:â€" K He was a little ragged waif living in a village. A stranger to actual comfort it is not to be supposed that he was very familiar with the pleasures of life. On Chnistmas eve he was standing beâ€" fore a shop window with his lean little face pressed against the pane, devourâ€" ing with hungry eyes the beautiful disâ€" play within.
