Though away less than ten days Mr. Laprairie motored over 2,000 miles during this holiday. Mr. J. MeCracken, superintendent of the Temiskaming District Chiidâ€" ren‘s Aid Society, of Haileybury, was a visitor to Timmins this week. Mr. John Degrouchier, formerly with the Ingersolâ€"Rand here, has been transferred to Sherbrooke, Que., and left on Mondayv morning for that city. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Eppiett on their way to FTimmins to visit a former school mate, Mr. Gordon Eplett. They motored and think this country wonderful. Mts. John Plante, of Eseanaba,, Michigan, recently visited ner brother, Mr. Nap Villeneuve, at Haileybury, whom she had not seen for 43 years. When a young woman of 25 years of age, Mrs. Plante went to Michigan, and since that time never visited Canâ€" ada until this year. In all that time Mrs. Plante and Mr. Villeneuve, who is five years older than his sister, hod not seen each other, though keeping up a correspondence. The annual swimming race to New Liskeard on Saturday for the Geo. White trophy promises to be a big event. It will be one of the big feaâ€" tures at New Liskeard the same day as the T. N. Oldâ€"timers of the Poreupine will remember John A. Walker, who was in this camp in its very early days. He was then a prospector and later was secretary of the Miners‘ Union here. He was in that post at the time of the strike of 1912, the headâ€" quarters of the union for the district being at South Poreupine then, this being before the town of Timmins had attained any particular growth. Oldâ€" timers speak of John A. Walker with the highest respect, and so will be pleased to know that he has gone far in advancement since the early days of Poreupine. The last issue of The Toronto Saturday Night publishes a fine halfâ€"tone picture of Mr. Walker, now the Hon. John A. Walker,, Under the picture, The Saturday Night says: ‘‘Hon. John A. Mr. Walker is a native of Cape Breton, of Highland Scottish descent.
