Mayor Lendrum, of Cobalt, wrote the council regarding an important meeting of the Association of Municiâ€" palities of Ontario to be held this month. The reeve of Tisdale, Mr. C. V. Gallagher, has been chosen to adâ€" dress the meeting in regard to assessâ€" ment and tax matters as they affect municipalities where the chief indusâ€" try is minng. Mayor Lendrum pointâ€" ed out how important it was that all mining towns and townships should be spectally represented at the meetâ€" ing to support Mr. Gallagher‘s preâ€" sentation of the case and to give any new light they might have on the matter. Council agreed as to the imâ€" portance of the meeting referred to, and Mayor Longmore is to be comâ€" municated with to see if he can atâ€" tend the meeting while on his way back from his vacation. The (Provincial Retail Merchant‘s A letter was received from Mr. L. Leblane, 78 Mountjoy street, saying that on August 2nd, dogs got into his chicken house and killed 38 young chicks. He asked the council to pay the loss he had suffered as he thought this was what dog taxes were colâ€" lected for. Council did not see that the town was liable, though sympathâ€" izing with the owner of the chickens in any loss sustained. At the regular meeting of the town council on Monday afternoon the actâ€" ingâ€"mayor, Councillar A. G. Carson, presided, and Councillors W. H. Pritâ€" chard, 8. Drew and P. Dougall were present. The mayor is absent on holidays as were also the other members of council not present. MeLauchlan for the excelâ€" lent work done in regard to some ilâ€" legality called to the attention of the authorities. The action of the «chief of police at Timmins, the letter said, had (been so prompt and efficient, as to call for special commendation and the letter wished to express the genâ€" eral apprectation felt and the eredit reflected on Timmins. A request for permission to install a gasoline tank at 73 Sixth avenue was granted, the installation to be apâ€" proved by the town engineer. Councillor Pritchard called attenâ€" tion to the immediate need of a new stack at the incinerator. The present stack was liable to break at any time and should Ibe replaced. The cost of the new stack would ‘be about $350.00. It was considered that the township of Tisdale would be willing to pay part of the cost of the new stack. In this connection it was mentioned that the Mcelnyre Mine, in Tisdale, sent two or three loads a week to the incinâ€" erator, Schumacher sent loads every other day, and the Bartleman townsite used the incinerator. A meeting is to be arranged at as early a date as possible to discuss with Tisdale townâ€" ship the matter of the maintenance costs of the incinerator. In the meantime prices are to be secured on the matter of the building of the reâ€" quired new stack. made in error, were also authorized to be written off.
