In an official interview given out last week at Toronto, the president, Mr. 0. Cabana, J.r, has the followâ€" ing to say. In an official statement to The Star, Mr. Oliver Cabana, Jr., president of Wrightâ€"Hargreaves Mines, Ltd., states at a meeting of the board of direcâ€" tors held in Toronto on Monday it was thought advisable for the present to reduce the dividend payment‘ to 2 1â€"2 cents per share instead of 5 cents as heretofore. In explanation Mr. Cabana says in extensive underground development including sinking of two shafts to the 2,000 ft. level, an unusually large quantity of lowâ€"grade ore was enâ€" countered, resulting in the company not producing sufficient to pay the ceustomary dividend of 5 eents per customary dividend of 5 cents per share from earnings, and the desire of directors is not to draw too heavily on the surplus account. At tho meeting the directors passed a resolution authorizing the paymeni of a dividend of two and oneâ€"half cents (2 1â€"2¢) per share on the no par eapital stock on Aug. 1, 1928, to stockâ€" holders of record as of July 16, 1928. ‘‘The most recent report on the property, submitted at the meeting by the general manager, was quite encouraging. It was the opinion of the management that â€"from now on the grade of ore milled would be conâ€" siderably higher, and the possibilities of earning the regular dividend seemâ€" ed very likely,"‘ stated Mr. Cabana. The month of July has opened with millheads running $9 per ton, which is a distinect increase, and (General Manager Grant was optimistic as to the improvement continuing.
