The people of South Poreupine ard district extend their deepest symâ€" pathy to the sufferers in the Hollinger disaster. Prayers were said in all the churches here on Sunday asking for comfort for those in trouble. Mrs. E. . Britton and small son, Peter, are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Boyce, of Ottawa. Mrs. Laforest has returned from Toronto. The window of the South End Pharâ€" macy presents an imposing spectacle this week. It is draped in the black and gold hockey colours of the town A most enjoyable hockey match| took place at the Arena between Kirkâ€" land Lake fHligh School and our own fast young Maple Leafs resulting in a score of 9â€"2 in favour of the home team. The boys lined up as follows: Kirkland Lake:â€"Goal, K. Clarke; deâ€" fence, I. Newman, A. Lmtlop, centre, K. Ash wings, 8. Speck, I. Kokotow ; subs, P. Ash, G. Gill, ~Maple Leafsâ€" Goal, M. MacDougall; defence, Sampâ€" son and Johns; centre, Cattarello; wings, Doran and Michaelson; subs., Taylor, Martin, Melunis, Bucovetsky and Holding. Referee, Charles Jemâ€" mett. The teams were quite evenly matched as to weight, for, though two of the visitors were so small that some of the fans wondered had a mistake been made and some picked from the kindergarten, there were others that were heavier. . But when the game started the small man at centre soon showed he knew as much or more about hockey than any othgg member of the team and was rm'ht there when it came to checking at centre as well as being a live wire at all times in the game. I\ol\otm\, who formerly playâ€" ed with the Trail Rangers here, was another good man on the visiting team and Lintlop made some pretty poke checks. The greatest weakness of the visiting team seemed to be leaving their goal too open. Too much was left for the goalie and he only filled a very small corner though doing his best to make up in activity what he lacked in sgsize. Sampson on defence was a new man on the Maple Leatf‘s who is fast and a good shot on goal but was too mitch inclined to mix up some rough stuff in his play. When smoothed out to real hockey he‘ll be a player well worth wateching. Johns as usual showed great speed and preâ€" cision. Of the subs. Melnnis showed much more confidence in himself than 100000000000 000. . on n cce en e e en es m uts ce m n n mm m and in the centre is the handsome N.O.H.A. Senior Hockey trophy won last year. A rink composed of Dr. Cameronâ€"Smith, skip, A. Pearce sr., viceâ€"skip; Dr. Harper, second ; and D. MacPhail, lead ; were left down two in playing against a Timmins rink skipped by H. J. Marshall.
