The following is a copy of an official letâ€" ter to shareholders sent out last week, under the signature of the president, Mr. A. Marland Woolnough :â€" ‘*At a meeting of the Board of Diâ€" rectors of your company on Novemâ€" ber 23, 1927, a contract was authorâ€" ized with the Canadian Ingersollâ€" Rand Co., Limited, for the following new equipment for Hilltop . Gold Mines: (1) An _ electrically driven compressor of 936 cubic feet capacity, operating eight drills (2) An elecâ€" trically driven doubleâ€"drum hoist capâ€" able of cearrying development to a depth of 1,500 feet. ~(3) Motors, pumps, ete., to operate this equipâ€" ment. ‘‘Authority was also given to purâ€" chase the transformer equipment necessary to aperate the Hilltop plant from the power line of the Northern Canada Power,.Company, which passes within a hundred feet of your Cormâ€" pany‘s present power house. *‘With the new compressor installâ€" ed it will ‘be possible to use the old hoisting equipment for shaft sinking to a further depth, while the new hoisting machinery is being assemblâ€" ‘‘The programme of development which has been decided upon is outâ€" lined as follows: (1) A thorough yeological examination of the properâ€" ty. Hodgins and his brother, of Shawville, are guests of Mr. and Mrs Bert Thomas, Main street. All the new arrivals in this part of the eamp of late have been of the feminine gender. The dearth of baby boys has been quite noticeable. This week as though it were to emphasize the dawning supremacy of woman, the fact was made more marked when twins, both girls, arrived at the Presâ€" byterian Hospital here, the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Swaala, of Schuâ€" macher. All are doing well. Mr. H Sutherland, of Toronto, visitâ€" ed the Hunter Mine, Golden City, this week to see how things were proâ€" gressing there. _ The sampling has now all been completed and the comâ€" pressor is being prepared for the carrying on of further development work. This mine at which considerâ€" able work was done in the early days of the camp has a shaft down 280 feet. and there are some 700 feet of erossâ€" cutting and drifting done. €.2 €_2 On Saturday evening next there will be cards for those who do not wish to dance, at the social evening of the Cornish Weleome Dance Club. t enR C At the police court on Thursday the Russian, Harry Patnussnick who was charged with assaulting (stabâ€" bing) a fellowâ€"countryman at the Dome Mines, was let go on suspended senâ€" tence owing to his previous good reâ€" cord. He ‘has been in Canada for several years, latterly working at the Dome. h_ ds s cl Mrs. D. MacPhail of the Consolidatâ€" ed West Dome Lake, was the hostess at two delightful bridge teas given at her home last week. Qulte a number from town went out to enjoy her hosâ€" pitality. JUDGE REQUESTED THE WITNESS TO SPEAK UP The following is from The Winniâ€" peg Mirror:â€" . % * 8 The young barrister was boring judge and witness alike. He cited case afte case in tedious fashion, and so exasperated a city business man with his crude methods of crossâ€"exâ€" amination that the witness muttered, ‘"Shut up, you young fool."‘ w =p The young counsel at onee appealed to the judge. ‘‘My lord, the witness is mumbling insulting remarks about me.‘‘ The judge stiffened, and with the ghost of a smile playing round his mouth, said, sharply: ‘‘Don‘t mumâ€" ble, don‘t mumble."‘ RECENT IMPORTANT DEAL IN MINING INDUSTRY Commenting on the recent deal cluded for the Flin Flon mining perty in Manitoba, The Mail pire says :â€" ‘‘The most important event of the week was, of course, the formal anâ€" nouncement that the Whitney group of New York had exereised their opâ€" tion on the Flin Flon property in Northern Manitoba and that work would commence almost immediately on the construction of the line from the Hudson Bay extension over to the property. The payment secured by Mining Corporation of Caâ€" nada for the holdings was somewhat different from what had been generalâ€" ly expected that they would receive and the market declined rather sharpâ€" ly on their publiccation. Later in the week, however, there was a good reâ€" covery. By the terms of the agreeâ€" ment Mining Corporation has receivâ€" ed $854,000 in cash and retains a fitâ€" teen per cent. interest in the property as well as a fifteen per cent. interest in all the claims and projects separately owned by the Whitney group in the Flin Flon distriet. On Friday deâ€" spatches from New York stated that Harry Payne Whitney had several months ago disposed of a thirty‘five per cent. share of his interest to the Newmont Mining Company." con pro Em THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO PRIZE FOR BEST STORY LEGION SMOKER FAIOAY Good Programme Arranged for ‘‘Bucâ€" shee‘‘ Event in 1IO.0.F. hall Tomorrow Evening. In regard to the property near Raâ€" more the vein is reported as being so rich that it has been found imperaâ€" tive to keep its exact location hidden. Snow is understood to be used to cover over the workings after samples are taken out. The stories told in Ramore are to the effect that the richâ€" ness of the discovery means that watchmen will be necessary all the time as soon as work starts. A corâ€" respondent who visited Ramore reâ€" ~cently is authority for the statement that a recent sample taken out of the Barnett township claims was simply "a lump of gold with feldspar porâ€" phyry in it‘‘ rather than porphyry carrying gold. It was also stated at Ramore that the discoverers took out about $600 in gold in some samples ‘taken to Toronto. _ What impresses | experienced mining men most is the \ fact that the feldspar porphyry intruâ€" sion in the greenstone formation is more extensive than at first supposed. The geological conditions are ideal for deposition of important deposits of gold. The winter road from Ramore to the discovery is now in excellent shape and is quickly covered by horse and sleigh. _ Machinery «comprising the mining plant for the Brettâ€"Tretheâ€" way is expected to be delivered at the | property within the next ten days. ‘ Ther was once a bonnie Seotch ladâ€" die, Who said, as he put on his pladie juist had a dish O‘ unco‘ guid fish."‘ Now what had he had ?
