ALL VEHICLES MUST CARRY LIGHTS AT NIGHTS NOW Monday evening a man driving a wazon in Moneta was surprised and puzzled at first when a police officer alled to him to ask where his lights were. The man had failed to read the newspapers and learn that beginâ€" ing on Saturday, Oct. lst, the law requires all vehicles to carry lights. he fact that he had not read and heeded the notites came close to costâ€" ing that man several dollars. *‘Igâ€" norance of the law is no excuse,"‘‘ acâ€" cording to a wellâ€"established legal saving. _ No other stand is possible, for otherwise exeryone would defy the law and exeuse themsgelves by claiming they did not know the reguâ€" lations. It is incumbent upon all to lations. 1t is incumbent upon All 1O know the law. As announced previously in The Advance all wheeled vehicles must earry lights when on the roads after sunset and until sunrise. All horseâ€" drawn vehicles, according to the reguâ€" lations of the new law, must earry light showing white at the front and red at the rear, and visible at 200 feet. In the case of vehicles to which lights cannot for some eause be attached provisions are made in the act for the use of reflectors similar to those now used on bicyeles. The purpose of the act is not only to prevent the frequent collisions of motor vehicles with unâ€" lighted horse driven vehicles, but to safeguard the lives and property of persons using horseâ€"drawn vehicles on the roads after dark. Some notes in regard to these visiâ€" tors may not be out of place. The duck was swimming on the lake, while an ow!l was watching it from a perch on a rail fence near by. The hunters noted that the owl was casting large covetous eyes upon the duck. A passing auto startled the duck and the latter rose in the air from the water. The owl gave chase, and the duck kept flying rather low, until owl was ready to pounce upon its prev. At police court last week, Henry Lepine was sentenced to two months in jail for an unprovoked attack upon Mr. M. J. Tinkess the evening previâ€" ous. The accused was with his broâ€" ther and another man, they apparently having taken a little more liquor than was good for them. They piled some blocks on the sidewalk in front of Mr. Tinkess‘ house and when he asked why. this was done, Henry Lapine without warning or exeuse struck him in the face. The unexpected blow damaged one eye of the man atâ€" tacked. The aceused admitted the offence, and as he had served time preâ€" viously for another assault, the court naturally could not view the unwarâ€" ranted attack with much leniency. The other two young men were fined for being drunk.
