The town has never had as fine flowers and gardens as this year and this fact should have decided bearing on the success of the show in every way. Everybody should help the horticultural show, because the zood work of the horticultural socieâ€" ty helps everybody. The garden competitions will rouse special interest this year. Entries for these should be made very soon now, to allow ample time for judging. Full particulars in regard to this or to any other feature of the show may be seâ€" cured from Mr. A. R. For August 28th they are putting on another big pienic that is expected to outelass even the best of their previous successes. _ The event will commence at 12.30 sharp on Aug. 28th, at the Finnishâ€"Ukrainian picnic grounds at the Mattagami river. â€" A big programme of sports, athleties and novelties will be enjoyed. There will be 1500â€"metre races, 5000â€"metre races, relay races, broad jump, high jump, javelin throwing, as well as the usual run of races and other events for men, women â€" and children. _ Competing teams are expected to be here from Sudbury and Kirkland Lake, and it is expected that each event will see the very keenest competition. _ In their sports days the Finnish people feature athletic events demanding high physiâ€" cal training and condition of the comâ€" petitors. _ They specialize in racing, jumping, throwing the javelin and similar â€" events _ where _ individual strength and training are essential.
