Mr. Pecore of ‘the West Dome Mines, is home again after a holiday spent in his former home at Killaloe, Ont. We are all glad to welcome Mr. ‘(Gordie‘ Spence back to camp again. He thinks Peterborough has nothing more to offer than Poreupine as a place to live in, so possibly he‘ll give us more thrills as he nets some of his sensational goals next winter. We are sorry to report Mrs. E. Chambers, of the Dome Extension, as ill in the Presbyterian hospital here, and hope for her speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. M. August 31st in Lake Ontario in front of the Canadian National Exhibition Grounds at Toronto. Scores of the world‘s greatest swimmers, including George Young, winner of the Catalina Channel contest, will comâ€" pete for the $50,000 prize money. A surprising feature is the number of women who have entered for the long grind. In this group are four with splendid records. At the left is Ethel Hertle, 19â€"yearâ€"old New York High School girl, 880â€"yard champion of the United States and long distance champion of the State of Connecticut. She was for six hours the closest swimmer to George Young and Norman Ross in the Catâ€" alina swim. Top centre is Madame Jane Sion, champion long distance swimmer of Europe. The police court on ‘Thursday last was a particularly long one. It inâ€" cluded five drunks who paid the usual $10 and costs; six cases of parties who were letting their dogs run at large contrary to the byâ€"law ; four of these paid the fine; two were reâ€" manded, owing to the owner of the dog being out of town; there were three speeding charges, all paying a fine; two cases of stealing were withâ€" drawn; one case of assault was fined ; of itwo cases of peddling one was fined and one withdrawn; one wage case was dismissed; one case of reckâ€" less driving was remanded ; and Korri charged with murder was sent on to a higher court for trial. DISTRICT CHILDREN‘S AID SUPERINTENDENT‘S REPORT The report of the local superintenâ€" dent of the Cochrane District Childâ€" ren‘s Aid for the month of June, 1927, is as follows :â€" 12 complaints. 12 investigations. 38 children involved as follows.â€"5 charged with delinqguency; 3 wards returned to parents; 2 placed in fosâ€" ter homes; 4 cases of illâ€"treatment of children; 5 homes considered as unâ€" fit on account of immorality; 4 not being sent to school; 10 not properly supported; 5 taken to convent at Kingston owing to illness of parents. In addition 1 child was made a ward of the Society ; 2 adoptions were applied for; 9 children of unmarried parents cases in various stages of settlement; 19 wards of the Society in shelters, convents and boarding houses; 11 children awaiting admisâ€" sion to shelter.
