It appeared that there was a possibility that the adjoining land might soon be regisâ€" tered as lots and as there is a big deâ€" mand for lots in Schumacher, they would soon be snapped up and built on, so‘ the matter was deferred just for the present. Exâ€"Councillor Harâ€" ris, of /‘ Schumacher, was present on behalf of a Timmins undertaker who had been requested by the late shortâ€" lived council, to send in his bill for a certain funeral expense, up to $100 to the council. The Ukrainian Club ‘of Schumacher had borne the rest of the expense and had cared for the man for some two years before his death. [The previous council had authorized this bill, some of them, at least, knowing that the most the counâ€" cil ever granted towards funeral exâ€" penses was $75. The present council stated they would give the undertaker a cheque for $75 and as they knew he was a good fellow they thought he would accept that and wipe the acâ€" count off his books. He said he wouldn‘t mind accepting the check but would like to know from where he could expect the other $25.. The councilâ€"did not enlighten him, leaving the matter over, and he retired from the meeting. _ About half an hour later a phone message came to the clerk from Mr. Walker, the underâ€" taker in question, saying he would acâ€" cept the cheque for the $75 and call the account square, proving he was the good fellow they had thought him, In the court of revision some taxes were confirmed, some reduced and it was found out on investigation that one man‘s income tax should have been higher. He was a foreigner and had not given his information correctâ€" ly. There was no legal method pracâ€" ticable of collecting the extra tax now~but, needless to say, the man did not get the reduction he was seeking. Councillor Kerr asked for approxiâ€" mately 2000 ft. of cement walks for Schumacher. Tenders will be receivâ€" ed for this week. Spruce is getting so searce as to be hardly available for board walks and jackpine was not considered advisable whereâ€"the streets have to be ploughed with a horse in the winter. The engineer asked for a gas tank for Schumacher. It was thought that possibly arrangements On Monday evening, June 13th, the council of Tisdale held a short session. In the absence of Reeve Gallagher, Councillor Laforest acted as reeve. Councillor Kerr, Hawkins and Wilâ€" liams were also present. After the reading of the minutes and corresponâ€" dence the engineer brought several problems up for the council‘s conâ€" sideration, one being in regards to a house in Schumacher that was wantâ€" ing water but was an extra 30 ft. away from the main over and above the usual amount of feet which the contractor was required to go. There was considerable discussion, most of them thinking that the township could not ibe responsible for the extra exâ€" pense but that the property owner _ _ Mr. Jack MacDonald has come from !,Old Mexico to accept the position of assayer at the New York Poreuâ€" pine. _ Mr. MacDonald was an oldâ€" timer here, having worked at the Dome Lake some years ago. The band concert given by the Porâ€" cupine CGoldfields Band on Thursday evening last in the Majestic theatre was the best yet and was fairly well attended. Mr. George Cole acted as chairman and in introducing the band drew attention to the fact that in numbers it was getting almost too large for the stage and also that it comprised practically every nationâ€" ality except Chinese. The opening number was the ‘‘March of the Double Eagle,‘‘ and was followed by an overture, *‘The Gypsy Festival.‘‘ FPhen came the Irish Jig danced by Misses Irene and Hilda Rowe, of the Dome. This was a marvel of graceâ€" ful motion and sprightliness. â€" Then the band gave a humorous number, ‘‘Let‘s Have a Little Fun,‘‘ in which the whistling accompaniment by some of the bandsmen was very pleasing indeed. The Indian War. Dance, as given by Miss Brownie James, of Timmins, showed wonderful agility and was heartily encored ; the Charlesâ€" ton being given upon return to the platform. Miss Mabel James pleased all with her two readings, "**Big Steamships,‘‘ and â€"‘*‘Philosophy."" He was told that the apâ€" propriations for extensions of the waterworks had not yet been made,. that his case would need to be "conâ€" sidered later. He stated . that he would have to put in his own pump:â€" ing system if he could not be connectâ€" ed up with the town water, remarkâ€" ing that he could put a pump inâ€"his milk house and connect it up with his well..
