There will be specially good hockey in the district this season from present indications, and the match this week between the McIntyre and Timmins Juniors should be one of the interesting events. Both teams are on their toes to show what they can do, and both will put up a lively battle. The faceâ€"off will be at 8.15 p.m., and from then until the final gong, the match promises to be one of interest and liveliness,. _ The hockey fans should be on hand to watch, as it will be an interesting forecast of what may be expected in the hockey line here this season. It is an exhibition match, one of the teams being the Timmins entry into the N.O.H.A. Junior series, and the other one of the lively teams from the Porcupine Mines Hockey League. MINT REFINING GOLD FROM ONTARIO MINES. Thursday evening of this week, Dec. 23rd, a lively game of hockey is promised at the Timmins Skating ink. The contending teams will be the Melntyre and the Timmins Juniâ€" ors, both teams showing . consnderable on Thursday, Dec. 23rd, at 6 p.m., prompt, in the Hollinger Recreation hall. All ghildren are requested to be present right on time so that there will be no danger of their missing Santa Claus. The Christmas tree will be followed by an open dance. Dancing will be from 10 p.m. to 1.30 am. The A. S. D. orchestra will be in attendance so that the best of music is assured. A charge will be made to all visitors for the dance. The new Empire Theatre has been reâ€"equipped for motion picâ€" tures, and is now better than ever, having two upâ€"toâ€"date machines and all ‘the other necessary equipment. The New Empire, at one time the ‘‘"pride of the North‘‘ in motion picâ€" ture houses, has staged a remarkable comeâ€"back and now, comfortable, wellâ€"equipped and upâ€"toâ€"date, will no doubt renew its oldâ€"time popularity with the public. The Old Empire Theatre has been closed down, the New Empire taking its place as the second motion picture house of this upâ€"toâ€"date town. sSUCCESSFUL SOCIAL AND DANCE BY WELSH SOCIETY A very successful social and dance, under the auspices of the St. David‘s Welsh Society, was held in the Holâ€" linger Recreation hall on Friday evenâ€" ing, Dece 17th. About two hundred guests were present and a delightful time was enjoyed by all. During an interval in the other features of the evening, Mrs. Geo, Hale entertained the company with a recitation given with her usual effective skill. Everyâ€" one present voted the evening a great success. The event was brought to a close with the singing of the Welsh and British national anthems, the forâ€" mer being sung in the Welsh tongue.
