South Poreupine, Aug. 25th,. Speâ€" cial to The Advance. The Township of Tisdale Council met on Monday. August 23rd, with the Reeve _ and Councillors Deacon, Russell. and Harris present. Considerable â€" correspondence . was read, among it, a report from the Sanitary Inspector reporting condiâ€" tions much more favorable throughâ€" out the township. _ There was still room for improvement at some of the milk vendors‘ places but these too, were being put in better shape. Atâ€" tention was called to the need of sewâ€" erage and water at the jail but the township fathers had already planâ€" ned for this. There was a petition from residents on Bloor avenue and vicinity asking that Mr. Huhta, a Finlander, be restrained from buildâ€" ing a cowâ€"stable in their midst on the corner of Moore street and Bloor. The iTealth Officer had been consulted but he had no power to stop it, he could just see that it was kept according to regulations. The Council were not sure that they could prevent it either, if the man complied with all regulaâ€" tions, but would refer the matter to their solicitor. There is byâ€"law to prohibit such building, as yet. The township engineer‘s report showed the work well advanced throughout the district that had been planned for this summer. R. Mansfield was present to ask for a waterâ€"line on O ‘Brien Ave. This was somewhat late in the year for contsiâ€" deration of new lines but as it was only a short street and would supply five houses the Engineer was to be asked for an estimate of the cost of auch. M. Clarke asked what arrangeâ€" ments could be made for water for the new rink and it was decided that the line to the jail would supply this. A man from Bartleman townsite on Lot 44, Hemlock street, objected to the price charged for his water conâ€" nections. As there had only been some halfâ€"dozen houses or so to supâ€" ply there, the work had been done by a footage rate instead of the usual contract. As this man thought his footage was no more than some of the others, the engineer was to be directed to reâ€"measure it. C plea was made for a small loan rable correspondence _ was ong it, a report from the Inspector reporting condiâ€" ch more favorable throughâ€" cownshin.â€" There was still Contains No Alum Domino # .‘ ##4 # # #4 t# # #* ind # # ##4 *# + # #4 # # ## * 4# #4# # # # t# ## # + ## # # ## *# # #* # # 44 *# # «w # * #4 # # #4 L # ## ®# w #4 ## + # *4 *# # # # ## # + #4 # + 4 # # ##4 # E5 w # # t# *# + #4 #@ t #* # + ‘ad‘as* «» " t# ° t# " 44 s #.% 10 * a,*, us i u_ i4 .“.n.n.n.n:n.n.q "Where Quality Counts" -.“....-.“.“.M‘ K CC t t * t io o in io in io 6 io is i5 i5 i5 5 15 4 on behalf of a woman whose husband was not properly supporting her so that she could get established at something by which she could support herself and children. As the husâ€" band is an ableâ€"bodied man, well able to properly keep his own family, the Council thought that the authorities should foree him to do so, or alse put him in jail anhd make him work there, Mr. Briggs, of Curran and Briggs, who were the contractors for the fire and sewer mains, was present and asked for some money on their conâ€" tract. The Reeve asked how was the work standing up. Mr. Briggs statâ€" ed that the sewer and domestic lines were now O.K., and it was their imnâ€" tention to have the job completed to their satisfaction. $1000 had already been spent on this work this spring. Mr. Briggs thought that a 36 hour test of 150 lbh. pressure was a someâ€" what extended test. As the Engineer in charge had not yet passed this acâ€" count for payment, the Reeve stated that the required advances could not be made till such was done but that Mr. Sutcliffe would be up himself in a few days and that they could arâ€" range matters then. Mr. Briggs statâ€" ed that Mr. Suteliffe had referred them to the Council. As they had made practically nothing out of this contract, it was stated to be a conâ€" siderable inconvenience to have the payment thereof so long delayed, but there seemed no other way out of it but to wait until the Engineer came to pass the account in due form. The Police auto which has put in three seasons of hard usage was statâ€" ed to be badly in need of considerable attention to make it a dependable quantity in time of need. The usual routine of accounts, ete. were passed before the Council adâ€" journed. Mr. Matt Allen and family are moved this week to Kirkland Lake. Their departure will be regretted by hosts of friends in Timmins, where they have been excellent citizens, useful and popular. Mr. Allen, who conducted a successful dairy business here for years, is conducting a simiâ€" lar business in Kirkland. «eÂ¥ # # ## * . % #4 h d #4 # . % *4 *# ® #* D 25C.
