The variety and extent of the minâ€" eral possibilities of the North Land are again suggested by recent reports from the district north and west of Cochrane. Prospectors coming south from the extensive area now staked out for coal say that they are sure that there is oil in the country. The prospectors point out that they disâ€" covered an oil scum on the rivers in many sections and this is one of the indications of oil nearby. They also point to other indications in the counâ€" try, suggesting that the district is rich in oil. While the most of the prospectors admit that oil is a little out of their line, they are certaim enough that it would be well worth while to test out the country for oil. Most of them seem to believe that oil in commercial quantities will yet be tapped north of Cochrane. Not content with their suggested discovery of oil, some of the prospecâ€" tors suggest that diamonds will be found in the North Land. The forâ€" mation favours the chances of diaâ€" monds jbeing present, the scientific gentlemen are understood to say. But up to date no one has come along with any samples. Any prospector finding any diamonds north of Cochâ€" rane can leave them at The Advance office for display. On Friday evening, July 23rd, the Caledonian Society of Timmins will gcive an Open Dance in the Hollinger Recreation Hall. Refreshments will be served during the evening. (The nominal charge of $1.00 per couple will ‘be made for the event. â€" Dancing will commence at 9 p.m. sharp. ‘The best of music will be furnished by the A.S.D. orchestra. Caledonian dances are always enjoyable, and the event on Friday evening of next week, July 23rd, will be even more pleasing than usual, it is expected. The proceeds will be devoted to the expenses of the annual picnic to Golden City.
