We understand some of the children have done exceptionally well in their work throughout the year but as the examinations given by the teachers have to be supplemented by the Departmental examinations the full report of their year‘s work not yet be given. Mr. and Mrs. Fox and two danghâ€" Misses Ethel and Mabel Ferguâ€" *son, left this week for a vacation at their former home, Halifax, N.S. Mr. David Devine died at the Dome Hospital on Friday, June 18th, from pneéumonia. He was born at Buckingâ€" ham, Quebee, sixtyâ€"eight years ago and had been employed by the Dome Mines for the past thirteen years, the most of that time hbaving been in charge of the pumping station in Porâ€" ecupine Lake. â€" For many years s family were respected residents ‘of South Poreupine but a few years ago * Miss Gertrude Snyder, assistant teacher at the Continuation School left the first of the week for her home in Clinton, Ont. Miss Beulah Raynor celebrated her ninth birthday on Friday, June 18th. Forty of her young friends assembled as her guests and a jolly good time was spent by all. A beautiful threeâ€" storey huthda\ cake with nine canâ€" dles, lighted, was the central piece on the table but when the forty little folks finished there was no vestige of this central effect left. On Sunday about forty . of the members of the Rebekah Lodge here journeyed by motor to the cemetery at Timmins to place flowers on the graves of sisters who have been buried there. Crescents of roses and sweet peas were taken for the graves of the late Mrs. Walter Frisby and Mrs. Wohyte. (On Wednesday evening last a very pleasant event took place at the home of Mrs. Will Melntosh on Bloor avenue, when a number of friends gathered at a miscellaneous shower being given for Miss Pauline Belanâ€" ger, one of the public school teachers, who will shortly become the bride of Mr. M. M. Williams, a former teacher in the Continuation School bere. The young brideâ€"toâ€"be was completely taken by surprise and much merriment ensued when the guests all gathered around her with their best wishes and gifts. _ About thirty friends enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Mcelntosh. Mr. H. Kincaid is up from Kirkâ€" land Lake on a visit. On Wednesday the pupils of Mrs. Colborne‘s room are enjoying a pienic at Golden City. _ This pienic was promised to the room which was reâ€" presented by the most members in the Home and School Association for the year. _ Miss Shaw‘s room (the principal‘s room) comes next and they win a large Union Jack. Dowsett is entertaining those who took part in the concert given by Mrs. Barry, at a luncheon on Friday, June 25th, at her home at the Dome. Mr. Sherman Simpson left toâ€"day for Englehart. He is to be married at Englehart on Wednesday, June 23rd, to Miss Mary Mackler of Perth, Ont. The happy young couple will take up residence in South Poreupine where Mr. Simpson is manager of the South Porecupine Pharmacy. We exâ€" tend our best wishes. Miss Francis Wright is home from St. Joseph‘s College, Toronto, to spend the vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Wright, Brown street. We were pleased to see Miss Francis‘ photo in The â€"Evening Telegram of June 19th among those who had won medals at the Academy. Miss Wright won the gold medal given by Archhishop MecNeil for Christian Doctrine and Bible History. She also was silver medallist in art. Although only fifteen she has now completed the work of the Lower School, besides having shown markâ€" ed proficieney in Art and other speâ€" cial studies. Director of Music and Art. in our Public School, has left for her home at Lindsay, Ont. â€"The Chibougamau Lake Prospectâ€" ing Syndicate met on Thursday evenâ€" ing in the Council Chambers with nineteen shareholders present. ‘The following were elected:â€"Chairman, Martin Harkness; directors, C. W. Chellew, H. V. Grewecoe, C. E. Myers; Secretary J. J. St. Paul. they removed to Saskatoon. â€" Mrs. Devine and Miss Muriel came from there immediately on receiving word of his illness and will take the body back to Saskatoon for burial. His brother, Adam, and his son, John were also here from Buckingham, Quebec. Mr. Devine did not notify anyone of his illness until it had reached an advanced stage and by the time he was taken to the hospltal little could be done for him. _ Beâ€" sides his widow there are left to mourn his loss, four daughters and three sons:â€"Maud, Elizabeth and Murie!l of Saskatoon, Mrs. A. Beauâ€" mont (Ida) of Ponoka, Alberta, Amâ€" brose and Percy, of Assiniboia, and Ernest of Zealandia. Three brothers, Adam and Sam of Buckingham, Que. and John of Semans, Sask., also two sisters, Mrs. A. MacMillan, Ottawa, and Mr. Jno. Moar, of Sémans, Sask., survive. There were many floral tri-fl butes from friends, among them beâ€" ing a wreath from Mayor E. G. Dickâ€" son, of Timmins. The Christy Brothers, wellâ€"known prospectors in the North, were in South Poreupine for a few days durâ€" ing the week before leaving for Chiâ€" baugamau Lake, Quebeec. Mrs. (Geo. Kemp and ‘*Snookums"‘ of Toronto is on a visit to her husâ€" band who has been employed at the Golden North Bakery for some time. The Explorers Club are planning a trip to Bob‘s Lake on Saturday. Three little lads who have had a very interesting ‘‘*‘secret‘‘ for the past few weeks were much saddened on Friday last when they â€"went to pay their regular visit to their ‘*secret‘‘ to find the mother robin dead on the nest, evidently from exâ€" posure. _ Three hungry little robins were still alive beneath her, so they brought them, nest and all, to one of their homes where there was no cat, and after perusing their **Wonder World."‘ **Book of Knowledge‘‘ and all other natureâ€"study books availâ€" able, they tried for some days to raise the motherless Birds on fishâ€"worms, cornmeal, fine sand, ete., but have not met with â€"<success, each one of the three birdlings having now died. The Dome Band picnie to Golden City on Sunday was largely attended, Dalton Cunningham‘s buses conâ€" veying several loads of happy picâ€" nickers to and from Golden City. The music of the band throughout the afternoon was a most attractive feaâ€" ture. On Monday, June 28th, a summer vacation school will be opened at the United church under the supervision of Miss Capsey, deaconess, of Toronto. It will be open from nine a.m. to twelve a.m. each day and besides the instruction given, many sorts of handicraft will be taught, such as basketâ€"weaving, etc. This class is undenominational and will last until Friday noon. On the last day a colâ€" lection will be taken up to defray expenses. In the police court on Thursday a man charged with having liquor in a public place was fined $50 and costs; a case of fraud was remanded for another week; a highâ€"grading charge was sent to a higher court; an asâ€" sault case was dismissed on account of the prosecutor not appearing; a young lady from Schumacher charged her uncle with assault and he was fined $20 and costs and bound over to keep the peace. The South Poncupine Band gave a concéert in Schumacher on Sunday evening and were very well pleased with the appreciative audience which ereeted them. Miss Daphne Boyce, of Ottawa, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. E. G. Britton. Mr. W. G. Bowles, returned from a business trip to Toronto on Tuesâ€" day night, Little Muriel Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Tremblay, Pine street, north, and Mr. Albert Gosselin, of Ottawa,*were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, by the Rev. Fr. Theriault.> The couple were unatâ€" tended, the bride being given away by her father and the groom being sponâ€" sored by his brother Mr. 0. Gosselin. After the ceremony there was a dainâ€" ty wedding breakfast served at the home of the bride‘s parents, Pine street north. Mr. and Mrs. Gosselin left on the noon train for Ottawa and Montreal on their wedding trip and will take up residence in Ottawa. The young couple were the recipients of lhosts of beautiful and valuable presents and all good wishes from wide circles of friends. The bride was one of the popular young ladies of the town and highly regarded by all. being a valued member of the Ramâ€" blers‘ Club and other societies. Laidlaw in honour of Miss Jean Inglis, of the Publfc School staff. Miss Inglis leaves next week for Englehart, where she will be married, and the brideâ€"toâ€"be was the recipient of hosts of good wishes from her many friends here.
