Mrs. Barry and Mrs. Baker gave a very delightful bridge and tea on Saturday in honour of Mrs. Britton, Sr., and Mrs. Russell, Sr. There were four tables of bridge and all enjoyed the hospitality of these popular hostesses at Mrs. Barry‘s pretty home on Connaugh Hill. They entertained again at the tea hour and at bhridge on Wednesday. There was a meeting of the Tisâ€" dale Council on W ednesdav evening, April 28th, with Reeve Kerr and Councillors Barron, Russell and Harâ€" ris present. Considerable corresponâ€" dence was read, among it being a reâ€" quest from W. D. Pearee for the fillâ€" ing in of a ditch at the side of the roadway on Crawford street. A petiâ€" tion signed by various merchants, etc., re early closing. Mayor Dickson, of Timmins, was present at the meeting and Reeve Kerr asked him what atâ€" ternoon they were making a halfâ€"holiâ€" day in Timmins so that we could have uniformity throughout the Camp. Some ratepayers from Schumacher were present and complained that some of the merchants of that place were not strictly complying with the early closing byâ€"law. They asked that the stores be closed night at seven o‘clock except Saturday night and MelIntyre pay nights; that they close at ten on Saturday nights and at 8 o‘clock on MciIntyre pay nights. There was a report of the patients at present in Toronto Hospitals, Mick (Gainey being reported as in a very low _ condition _ from â€" iberculosis. There was also a letter from the town of Timmins re the bush which obâ€" scured the view at the railway erossâ€" ing. It was decided to look further into this matter and see what could be done as this is a dangerous crossâ€" ing. There were several letters quoting motor cycle prices, car prices and lumber prices and a letter from the town of Timmins in regard to an incinerator, which matter Wlll be furâ€" ther dealt with later.. Township enâ€" gineer Hendry‘s report of the work done throughout the township was read. The Schumacher Skating Rink asked for a â€"donation. It was moved by Councillor Barron, seconded by Councillor Russell that one hundred dollars be donated ‘the Schumacher Rink. _ There was a petition from Bartleman townsite, re a water main for that locality. Mr. Wilson Raynor was a business visitor to Matheson this week. Mr. and Mrts. Caswell Burns and baby aave left to reside in Massie, Ont. They spent the weekâ€"end. with Mrs. Clarente Farrell at the Dome Extension before leaving town. Mayor Dickson, of Timmins, was asked when they intended to confer with the Northern Canada Power, re prices, etce., of their commodity. Reeve Kerrâ€"asked permission for Engineer Hendry and himself to lisâ€" ten in at their meetings. It was statâ€" ed that if their prices for electricity were not satisfactory a Hydroâ€"exâ€" pert would be brought up. The clerk was authorized to purchase material for Schumacher and South Poreupine Fire System as contained in the speciâ€" fications submitted by the enginéers. Levinson Jast week. Miss Anita Levinson acted as acâ€" companist for the evening. â€" Besides his pupils from South Poreupine there were also several from the Dome and Timming. In the boys* competiâ€" tion on the violin, Maxw ell Smith, Jr., won the honours ‘and Henry. Huot came second. Among the glrls who played, Minnie Levinson and little Madeline{Rerosa won particular apâ€" plause. There was about fifty preâ€" sent, among the interested listeners being Mr. O‘Connor,;, Toronto, repreâ€" sentative â€" for â€" the _ Whaleyâ€"Royce violins. Mrs. R. Diapolo this week accomâ€" panied the remains of her father, the late Capt. William MacGregor, of Poreupine, to their firal resting place at Detroit. On Tuesday.evening a newly formâ€" ed Literary Society met and listened to a most interesting paper on the author, A. 8. M. Hutchison and interâ€" spersed with readings from his book, ‘*One Increasing Purpose,""‘ by Mr. (Geo.â€" Cole, who knew this popular author personally while they were in France. A_ spirited discussion folâ€" lowed by theâ€"company présent on the various books of this author. At the next meeting there is to be a paper on ‘‘The Industrial Situation in England."‘ The Cochrane Northland Post last‘ week says:â€"‘*Mr. Gus MceManus, of Hearst, was a visitor in town this week on his way to Timmins in conâ€" nection with his claims at Red Lake, where he has been one of the first to locate, having gone into that district three years ago."‘ l We are glad to see Edward Luhti of the Dome atound again after his recent attack of pneumonia. We hbhear that the Dome Footbaull players have all signed up and are ready to have a tryâ€"out as soon as the grounds are dry enough, which will ‘probably be by the time this is in print. The Hollinger and the Dome teams are to play in Timmins on Thursday we believe. No definite steps have been taken in regard to baseball yet but we understand there is to be a strong team in the field composed of the=Dome and South Poreupine. Mr.â€"and Mrs. T. J.,; Wright left Tuesday for a trip _ On Monday evening May 3rd ore of the jolliest curling events of the seaâ€" son took place. While May blossoms nodded their heads in gay display elsewhere, in South Poreupine was heard the roarin‘ of theâ€" stane and the swish of the besom. Those who were at the Curling Rink for this postâ€"Mayâ€"Day game say the ice was seldom in better shape all winter. The competing rinks were O. Henderâ€" son, H. Greweoe, J. Pillsworth, viceâ€" skip and W. Brooks, skip; versus J. Alexander, W. Gagnon, M. Legate, J. E. Boyle skip and Dr. MacDonald as an extra, as Legate had to leave early. In a game of 12 ends Brooks rink won 17â€"6.. If the 24th of May is not too balmy Boyle‘s rink might retaliate then. _ The players had their pictures taken by flashâ€"light on the rink. i The two Kellar brothers are leavâ€" ing the Ankerite this week for a visit to their home in Southern Ontario.
