I am sure it must be admitted that the members of this year‘s Council have unselfishly served the interests of the ratepayers during the past year, and ought to receive fair considâ€" eration for another year. ; Personally I really delight in a good clean fight, and I am in it to the limit for 1926 for reasons already recited, and I do not think it necessâ€" ary to dwell on my past services or record, as all the citizens know my wholeâ€"hearted interests have been in the growth and development of. this wonder town every since it was a baby, and with the electors‘ permissâ€" ion I shall endeavor to carry on the good work for another year. J. A. MeINNIS, M.D., I am informed that there are variâ€" ous slates already proposed for Mayor and Council for 1926. This undoubtâ€" edly is a most healthy sign in any municipality, when the aspirants are truly publicâ€"spirited and conscientiâ€" ously desire to serve for the betterâ€" ment of the town. If, on the other hand, the objective of some of these gentlemen is of a reactionary and deâ€" structive nature, then I think the rateâ€" payers should carefully consider who they elect to direct the affairs of a town of such growing importance as Timmins. I think, however, we have pretty well reached the peak and there should be curtailment and retrenchâ€" ment. I feel confident, however, that all expenditure in 1925 was made conâ€" scientiously and efficiently, and 1 don‘t think for a minute that either of my worthy opponents for Mayor in 1926 are going to effect any very appreciable economies such as I unâ€" derstand they areé credited with adâ€" vocating. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO. I am of the opinion, and I believe it will be conceded by the ratepayers generally, that it would‘ be a grave mistake not to include in a succeedâ€" ing Council, at least some of the memâ€" bers of the previous year, for unquesâ€" tionably the past experience of these older members, ought to be of considâ€" erable value in the guidance and the deliberations of a new Council. Among the large list of those preâ€" senting themselves for Council this year are many candidates who also would ~unquestionably make good Councilmen and who are worthy of the ratepayers‘ consideration. From what one hears on the street there appears to be some grievances aâ€" bout the high taxâ€"rate, but I would ask the electors how could it be otherâ€" wise with so many demands from the citizens generally for sewers, water extensions, _ sidewalks, _ pavements, schools, and other educational necessâ€" ities. So rapidly are we growing that there is a heavy demand on our finanâ€" cial resources. These tuestions are only a few of the outstanding ones which should have the advice and experience of at least some of the members of previous years‘ Council. The Commencemert Exercises in connection with the South Poreupine High School will be held on Friday evening, Dec. l1th, at 8 p.m. in the Assembly Hall at the school. There will be a musical and literary proâ€" gramme, as well as the presentation of prizes and diplomas. ; 7 SENIOR LEAGUE STANDING . IN BASEBALL SERIES In the Baseball series the Masons head the Senior League, having playâ€" ed four games and won all four. The Holly Rec. has won two and lost three. The Night School has won two and lost three, and the Ramblers have won one and lost three. COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES AT SOUTH END HIGH SCHOOL urged to stand for the Mayoralty for another year in order to assist in the completing, if possible, of several imâ€" portant matters which have been unâ€" der advisement for the past two or three years. â€" Notably among these matters for consideration, and which are of particular interest to the citiâ€" zens of this town during 1926, I may mention the Electric Light Teloâ€" phone Franchise, the Royalty quesâ€" tion, in which a much larger share of the Hollinger royalty should be allowâ€" ed by the Government to a growing town like Timmins, the eonsideration of a proper and adequate municipal building or Town Hall and also perâ€" haps the advisability of creating for Timmins acity status, which its presâ€" ent population might justify., _ This would allow the town to be divided into wards, with an increase in the number of Councilmen, thus giving a clearerâ€"cut representation to different sections of the city.
