Don‘t forget the splendid concert being put on by the pupils of the High School on the evenings of the 4th and 5th. A play entitled ‘‘A Case of At ithree a.m. Saturday, fire broke out in the house occupied by Mrs. Hobson on Strachan Ave. The fire is supposed to have been caused by overheated pipes and had made such headway before being discovered that the family were forceed to escape through the bedâ€"room window in their night attire. The alarm was given by Mrs. Hobson‘s founrteenâ€"yearâ€"old son, Bill. Mr. Hobson is absent in the Rouyn district. Despite a prompt reâ€" ponse on the part of the fire brigade the building was completely gutted and the Hobson family lost their all, both furniture and clothing. The building was owned by D. Levinson, We understand that the furniture was insured but that the policy on the building expired six weeks ago and was not renewed. His many friends, were shocked to hear the death of Mr. Fred Beshwaty in a Toronto sanitarium last Wednesâ€" day, Nov. 25th, He was 22â€" years of age and had charge of his father‘s jewellery store here up to a short time ago. Tubercular trouble developed and he had only been a short time in the hospital when his sister, who still resides here, Mrs. Otto Kaufman, was called to his bedside but we believe failed to arrive ‘before the end came. Much sympathy is extended to Mrs. Kaufman, and also to his father and mother, who are now residents of Cobalt. There is to be a debate af~ the Young People‘s Club on Tuesday, Dece. 8th, the subject being ‘‘*Resolvedâ€" that the cost of high living, not the high cost of living makes living high.‘*‘* This should be of interest to all, both old and young and anyone interested is invited to attend. The origin of the fire is a mystery, there being no stove, not even an electric light in the place.
