Many here know Miss Kellett and give her hbearty welcome on her annual visits of ‘collection. To those who do not know her it may be jsaid that the Deaconess has not only pleasing perâ€" sonality but the work in which she is engaged is deserving of the very heartiest support. _ Timmins in the past has very rightly given generous support to the cause represented by the Deaconess and it is to be hoped that this year will even exceed all previous records. _ The Tract Society does a very commendable work for sailers on the great lakes and for workers in the lumbering camps, etece. For these, libraries are provided, comâ€" forts are supplied, and other helpfual attention given. Sailors speak in warmest terms of the goodness of the Tract Society‘s work., â€" Sailors‘ homes are maintained at dake ports, and in various other ways the Society brings light and pleasure to the lives of rh«-_», sailors and the workers in distant ‘armips. Among the recent places sup-, plied with a library, Smooth Rock|! Falls may be mentioned, the Society‘s|â€" library there being much appreciated. Â¥O€ COLLECTING FOR WORK IN BEHALF OF SAILORS. Sundquist charged with nonâ€"supâ€" port was ordered to pay $15.00 per week for the maintenance of his wife. One man was fined $4.00 and costs for obstructing the street. Hector Chenier was charged with carnally knowing a girl under the ago of 14. The case was remanded to next week.. The child in the case is said to be about 7 years of age. The accused makes complete denial of the charge or any impropriety. Atâ€" Wednesday‘s court seven drunks were fined the usualâ€" $10.00 and costs. The case against Mike Stonyk, charged with seduction, was remanded to next week, Starting this week Timmins â€"will have police court two days a weekâ€" Wednesday and Thursdayâ€" instead of one day as formerly. Magistrate Atkinson ‘will come here from Swasâ€" tika on Tuesday evening, leaving here on Friday morning. Wednesday and Thursday will be devoted to court at Timmins and South _ Porcupine. Magistrate Tucker, of Cochrane, has taken over the court at Iroquois Falls un(}er the new arrangement. Whethâ€" er two days a week is necessary here for the cases arising may be open to question, but there can be no doubt but that the new arrangement makes any talk of a resident magistrate here unnecessary and undesirable.
