Several times when The Advance has sciven what it believed to be due praise to some of the young musicians of Timmins, someone would suggest that perhaps this paper was inclined to be overâ€"enthusiastic. So, perhaps, it is well to have opportunity to hear what outsiders have to say about some of the same young musicians. _ Reâ€" cently, a number of the young Timâ€"{ mins musicians visited several towns in the district, giving recitals. At Cochrane, the young people made a decided hit. In referring to the event at Cochrane, the Cochrane Northland Post last week says :â€"â€" of the Timmins Conservaâ€" tory of Music gave a pleasing treat to a rather sparse audience in * the Lakeview. Hall last night. The talented young pupils showed conâ€" siderable skill and artistic temperaâ€" ment in their playing, and made the evening a delightful surprise that amonest all the rush and bustle of pioneer life art is taking a prominent place by providing excellent opporâ€" tunities for musical training ‘of the young people. While the personal element was lacking â€" owing to the pupils not being of our own towWwn, the performance was of such merit that it easily overcame the handicap so that all whose in#erest had brought them to the hall were thoroughly deâ€" lighted to listen to the concert. ©Both in the orchestra pioces and the solos the selectiones was pleasing, "@nd the young artists played with con siderable talent and expression . of musical genius. Some day we shall have pupils of our town to listen to. and the example set by our sister town will ‘give a good spur to our OWn young people. A violin duet, (). Solo Mio, was given by Miss Pertisalo and Burt. Holland., The orchestral pieces included South,""‘ Overâ€" ture, Beethoven‘s Minuet, Op. 354. Hope March, and a comic sketeh, ‘*0 Katherina.‘‘ Professor Schroeder delighted with a violin solo, and our own Doug. Turâ€" ner was in splendid voice for several solos. Mr. E. Nunn, excelled himself in two comic songs. In all, it was a pity that not more of our townspeople took the opportunity to hbe present, as they certainly missed a treat.‘" 4 CORNET SOLO ATTRACTIVE _ _ PEATURE AT BAND CONCERT. Despite â€"unfavourable there was a good attendance at the open air band concert on Sunday evening. On account of the road beâ€" ing closed from the station to the Empire Hotel corner, in consequence of the operations for the construction of the new pavement, there were not the usual automobiles in attendance at the concert, but there was good attendance of people generally. The C L NCAAMNAAAAAR _ 1J 8 K P ie ds P TL . Li ie programme was a good one and wellâ€" rendered throughout. A special feaâ€" ture of the evening was the cornet solo, ‘‘Killarney‘"‘ by Bandsman Lloyd. This selection, with â€" band accompaniment, was very effectiveâ€" ty rendered _ and Bandsman Lloyd won very high appreciation for his eapable and attractive solo work. A despatch last week from Montreal suggests that the negotiations. coverâ€" inz months have hnall\' come to a head and the construction of a railâ€" way line, expected to cost in the nelwuhoulhood of $3,000,000 will start this fall to open up the Rouyn Gold and Copper fields. A long series of conferences between the Queheo Govâ€" ernment, the Canadian National Railâ€" way, mine owners of Rouyn district, and Rouyn M ines hml\\m Company have been going on for months and have finally culmmated in a plan. whereby the Rouyn Mines Railway will constructâ€"a 44.71 mile line from KO Brien on the National Transcontiâ€" nental line, to Rouyn township, which will subsequently be leased to . thp Canadian National Railways and be operated as part of that system. Tenders have been asked by the Rouyn Mines Railway Company, for crading, clearing, bridging, construcâ€" tion of eulverts, trackâ€"laying, ballastâ€" ing, fencing and other actual labour work in building the line. Construcâ€" tion of the line would be under the direction of engineers of the Canaâ€" dian National Railway. It was stated at the office of Mr. Gzowski, the chief engineer, that it would be hard to estimate the exaet cost of the work, until all the tenders had been opened, but it was expected that the entire cost of the work, including buildings, telegraph lines, which are to be laid. by the Canadian National Railways, track â€" materials, engineering, ete., would run ‘between $2,500,000 _ and $3,000,000. The price the Canadian National Railways will pay for the lease of the Rouyn Mine road has not been made public, but it is explained that the Rouyn Mines Railway will put up a bond of $20,000, for five years land the Quebee Government one of $50,000 for the same period to guarâ€" |antee the Candian National Railway ‘against a deficit in the operation of the road.
