Lefty Evans, who was pounded unâ€" mercifully on his first twoâ€" appearâ€" ances, proved to be a real sfumbling block to ~the usually heavyâ€"hitting Miners. However the Falls may not be so good toâ€"day. In any event, toâ€"day‘s eame will also be staged on the Miners home lot and it remains to be seenft whether the Papermakers can outhit the heavyâ€"slugging Miners and show the same form. . Lefty Evans looked just as bad in spots only, as he did in his first 3 starts against Timmins when he was pounded unmercifully and on two ocâ€" casions the Falls management allowed him to remain on the mound and take his medicine. Barring the 1st and G6th innings Evans proved unbeatable and he was accorded brilliant support by his team mates. | * Smith, also a South Paw, started (By J. N. Levine) The gap betwéen the Miners and the Papermakers is a little bit closer toâ€" day, due to the Falls‘ easy victgry on Wednesday last at the FPimmins Athletic field. Although the Falls are considered by many to be an alsoâ€"ran outfit, in the pennant hunt for the Northern championghip, they showed themselves to be real mud horses and they provedâ€" themselves the berries when they beat Timmins in a lake of mud, water and slime. TIMMINS PUBLIG LIBRARY NOW OVR A YEAR BLD On July 14th, 1925, the Timmins Public Library ended the first year of <its very useful existence. Durâ€" ing the first year of its existence the Library has had a very creditable record, The number of members for the year was 1248, showing that the Library is serving a wide circle of the people of the town. _ The number of books in cireulation for the year was 30,401. The number of books at preâ€" sent in the Library (including, of course, those in cireulation) is 1804. This is a larger was in the Library until some months ago when a big purchase of new books was made. But taking the present number of books as a basis, the cirâ€" culation could be figured out to the effect that each book in the Library had been out 16 times during the yvear. As a matter of fact the most of the books have been out more frequently than this. Some otsfhe books, parâ€" ticularly those for juveniles, ha‘ve been in cireulation as much ~as 70 times during the year. The reading room of the Library Hhas been another very helpful feature The reading room has been very popular and is always well patronâ€" ized. During the year it has given very helpful service to the Town. The past yearâ€"the first year for Timmins Publjlic Library has been a very successful one. The memberâ€" ship and cireulation alike are proofs of the interest taken in the Library and the benefits of the Library to the town. The time and attention given to the Library by the thoughtful and efficiâ€" ent Library Board has undoubtedly: contributed greatly to the striking sueccess and usefulness achieved by the Timmins Public _ Library. The Librarian, Mrs. D. Grinstor, has also conducted the Library with a skiull and an efficiency that have assured the best success and the greatest measure of service to the community. Appreciation may well be expressed a this time to the Library Board and to the Librarian for their generous services. â€" And toâ€" the _ Timmins Public Library all will sincerely wish ‘‘Many Happy Returns of the Day." GOVERNMENT ASSISTING i SETTLERS IN BUYING STOCK The Ontario Government is assistâ€" ing the settlers of the Mattice and Hearst districts in the purchase of good cows for their farms. The Gowernment has arranoed so that the settlers are only paying 25 per cent. of the cost down and the balance at the rate of $3.00 per month. Mr. J. Christianson, of Mattice, was sent to Toronto as the® representative of the settlers in the selection of aniâ€" mals to be distributed under the Onâ€" tario Government‘s plan. It is the intention to select a earload for Matâ€" tice and Hearst districts. The plan would appear to be a very helpful one for the settlers, and one likely to result in advantage to the settlers and credit to the Government. +.
