TIMMINS WINS FRST RCUND IN ONTARIO GUP The Ontario Cup match between Timmins and Kirkland Lake on Satur day last at Kirkland Lake was good value for anvbody‘s moneyvy. It was value for anybody‘s money. It was a swift, clean game, with Timmins coming out on top with the score 2 to 0. This is the first time in three years that Timmins has won from Kirkland Lake at Kirkland Lake, the best possible in the last few years being a draw. Saturday, Timmins lost the toss and Kirkland set them kicking uphill and against the sun. The first half was perhaps in favour of Kirkland Lake, but the Timmins defence stood solid and unbeatable. In the second half the Kirkland team cracked, the pace apparently having been too hard for them. A. Cadman had a dandy shot on goal, and the only way Kirkâ€" land could save was by one of the players fisting the ball. This caused a penalty, and from this penalty Satrang sent in a beauty for‘ the first counter for Timmins. The seeâ€" ond goal for Timmins was another by Satrang from a good pass by A. Cadman. _ There was another goal seored by Timmins but it was disalâ€" lowed. The following was the lineâ€" up for Timmins:â€"Elrick, goal; Lidâ€" dle and Hetherington, backs; Cooper, With this win in the Ontario Cup series and with, its record . for the season, Timmins should tackle the Dome next Saturday with every conâ€" fidence. Timmins has played 6 games this season, without a defeat, and with only one goal registered against them, as against 12 goals for. They have won the King Cup this year, and started the Dickson Cup series with a win. F. Cadman, H. Short, halfâ€"backs; Street, Satrang, Petterson, A. Cadâ€" man, R. Dunbar, forwards. A. Interesting Meeting Followed by Enjoyable Banquet. GRAND OFFIGERS VISHT + ROVAL ARGH CHAPTER On Saturday evening, June 27th, Northern Lights Chapter, R. A. M., Timmins, was honoured by visit from M. Following a most interesting and instructive meeting the members adâ€" journed downstairs, where the Ladies of the Eastern Star had provided a most enjoyable repast, which <was much enjoyed by all present. _ The tables were very tastefully laid, and reflected the highest credit on the skill and coâ€"operation of these ladies. The programme proved to be a parâ€" ticularly pleasing one. Vocal selecâ€" tions were rendered by Comps. Snow and Ramsay and were much appreâ€" ciated. _ Exâ€"Comp. Geo. C. After the ‘‘King and the Craft‘‘ had been toasted with musical honours, the chairman proposed the toast to the Grand First Principal and the Grand Chapter of Canada, which was most ably responded to by M. Ex.â€"Comp. Rt. Ex.â€"Comp. Smith gave a thoughtful and most interesting address on the work of the Grand Chapter and the principles of the Royal Craft, which was most earnestly and attentively listened to, and appreciated. Rt. Ex. Comp. Ebbitt, in his usual happy vein, spoke of the pleasure he ‘had enjoyed on this trip and referred to future official visit. The chairâ€" an then presented the Most Exâ€" First Principal with a souvenir of his visit, in the form of a piece of quartz, showing the metallic product of the district, to which M. Ex. Comp. Maki, Held on Serious Charge, Passes Away. Inquest to be Held. Mrs. L. Maki, who was held in jail here on charges of selling liquor and of keeping a common bawdy house, died on â€" Wednesday morning â€" last. The charges were laid some weeks ago but the woman had been out on $2000.00 bail, securing remands from week to week, one side or the other not being ready to proceed. On June 17th, the prosecution was ready to proceed with the cases against 1. Maki, and Mrs. Maki. Maki was conviected on charges of â€" selling liquor and of living on the avails of prostitution, being fined $500.00 on the first count and sentenced to six months in jail on the second charge. The four operators from the Toronto detective agency were here and gave evidence in the cases against Maki and Mrs. Maki. A â€" medical certifiâ€" cate was presented to prove that Mrs. Maki was too ill to appear in court. The man who had provided the bail for Mrs, Maki asked to bhe relieved of ‘the bail. A second doctor was sent to examine the woman, and reâ€" ported to the Magistrate that Mrs. Maki was not as ill as she professed to be and that she was not too ill to appear. â€" Accordingly she was brought to the court, and after the case, no bail being available, she was taken down to the cells. For a day or two she did not appear to be particularly ill, but was kept under medical attenâ€" tion. Tuesday evening she seemed to have reached a state where a nuyrse was necessary, and so a nurse was engaged. When the nurse left in the morning, Mrs. Maki seemed to be in good condition again. Wednesday morning at about 9.30 Dr. Melnnis paid a professional visit to the woâ€" man, and while he was attending ber she suddenly collapsed, dying in minute or so. Death appeared to be due to heart disease. A postmorten was held last week and an inquest will be held Wednesday evening of this week.
