A meeting of the Conservative Asâ€" sociation of Timmins was called for Friday evening last in the basement of the New Empire Theatre. There was a large attendance, with friends of Mr. J. K. OQ‘Neill largely in the ascendant. On the previous evening there had been a meeting of the Exeâ€" cutive at which it was unanimously agreed to submit the names of three candidates mentioned here to the Friâ€" day meeting, the two candidates reâ€" ceiving the.lowest votes to drop out in the interests of unity and harmony. The Executive unanimously agreed to oppose any of the candidates refusing to agree to the plan. At another Executive meeting on Friday the proâ€" posal was modified, it being agreed that the vote to be taken should simâ€" ply be considered as an expression of the opinion of the Town of Timmins, and while the two candidates receiving the lowest votes, should assist the higchest candidate so far as Timmins In addition to the toast list there was a very pleasing programme of music and literary selections. An outâ€" standing number was the violin selecâ€" tion by Mr. A. Gordon. The guitar duet by Mr. R. Mitchell and Miss R. McCarthy was deservedly a very popuâ€" lar number. A reading by Mr. Ken. Donohue was well given and much enâ€" joyed. Misses Wilson and Treleaven delighted all with theip pleasing duet, Mrs. Treleaven playing the accomâ€" paniment for this selcetion. Mr. D. Twaddle‘s solo was another specially appreciated selection, his fine voice and capable rendition pleasing all. GATHERING ON FRIDAY ‘ VOTES FOR J. R. Parks was toastmaster and carried the office with his custoâ€" mary skill and humour. The speeches proposing and responding to the toasts were of an unusually high orâ€" der. Those in regard to ‘‘The Genâ€" tlemen‘‘ and ‘*‘The Ladies‘‘® were esâ€" pecially elever and effective. "The Church*‘ was proposed by Miss E. M. Quick, and responded to by Rev, Mr. Parks. Mrs. J. D. Parks proposed the El Shadi Bible Class,‘‘ Mr. Reynolds making effective response. _*‘The President‘‘ was proposed by Miss Robinson, response being made in pleasing way by Mr. Claire Severt. Mr, Thomas proposed ‘*The Ladies‘ response ‘being made by Miss Jackâ€" son. Gentlemen,‘‘ was a toast very cleverly given by Miss Smith, and that was aptly responded to by Mr. Gray. Mr. Mann gave the patâ€" riotice touch by his proposal of the toast to ‘‘The King.‘‘ During the evening there were many congratulaâ€" tions offered to the El Shadi Bible Class for the success and progress achieved. In addition to its meetings on Sundays the Class meets regularly every Wednesday evening. The Class conducts its own aiffairs throughout, having a strong array of talent in its‘ officers, . | Dr. A. 8. Porter oceupied the chair and explaired the agreement as modiâ€" fied.
