CLVB IN MAY THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO Lists Reccoived of Costumes for Masquerade Ball on Friday Evening Though there was not as large an attendance as there usually is on Visitor‘s Night at the A.SJD. Cluib last Wednesday evening, a very enâ€" joyable time was spent by all attenâ€" ding. The _ evening‘s programme opened with two foxtrots after which Mr. W. Mackie acted as dinector for a Paul Jones. This was followed by a moonlight waltz which was much enjoyed. A lucky City Danee, which follows the style of a lucky number dance was the next item on the programme; this was one of the most enjoyable items on the proâ€" eramme. Prizes were awarded for the winners of this number, Miss Nina â€" Macleod winning the ladies prize, and ‘Mr. Jos. Caldbick carryâ€" ing the lucky city for the gentlemen. Mr. Maurice Belanger â€" acted â€" as director of ceremonies for a square dance. A Confetti Foxtrot was anâ€" other special feature on the proâ€" gramme. A foxtrot, followed ‘by a (Gentlemen‘s ‘Tag Dance, and a Dance were the concluding items on the programme. Miss Mary ©Boyd had charge of the refreshments for the evening, and these were a very enjoyable part of the programme. Music for the dancing was proâ€" vided by Mr. Ted Whaley, violin, Miss Germaine Bissonette, prano, and Mr. Gordon Torrance drums. A list is a‘vailable at the weekly dance for any who have friends they wish invitations sent to, turn in the name and ‘address and an invitation will ‘be sent. In response to numerous requests from Northern Ontario settlers, the government ‘s Department of Agnâ€" culture has decided to give hndncml assistance to settlers in purchasing dairy cows. Martin, Minister or Agriâ€" culture, the government proposes to advance 75 percent. of the cost price ‘of the animals, the purchaser to pay the balance in cash and give his note and a lien on the animals as security for the ‘balance, with interest at 5 percent, to be deducted from â€" the cream cheques at the creameries from time to time, in acâ€" cordance with arrangements to be made with the purchasers. The settlers will name a repreâ€" sentative to assist the government officer in the selection of the aniâ€" mals. The consts, by districts, are as follows: Algoma, $43,800 ; Cochrane, $25,150 ; Kenora, $17,270 ; Manitoulin, $11,915 ; Nipissing, â€" $24,100; Panry iSound, $18,650;, Rainy River, $20,180; Sudâ€" buny, $29,495 ; Temiskaming, $23,950 ; Thunder Bay, $32,451;, Muskoka, $14,â€" 900. The total cost of administration in the North as shown by the estimâ€" ates, is $261,310, as compared with $202,261, in the fiscal year 1925, the decrease being in slight appropriâ€" ations not required in Parry Sound, Thunder Bay and Kenora. iThese estimates are made up chiefly in salaries, fue), light and water for jails, court houses, and registmes offices, and general administration. In the estimates of the Department of Education, $113,050 is provided for the Nonth Bay Normal School, $77,300 for the English French, training school at Sturgeon Falls and $88,490 for Monteith Northern Academy, these figures being unchanged from last year‘s estimates.
