The annual meeting of the Temis kaming Volunteer Firemen‘s Assocâ€" iation was held on Thursday last at Ansonville. _ There was a large atâ€" tendance of delegates from all the fire brigades in this part of the North Land, every brigade being Tepresentâ€" ced excepting Timmins, and some of the towns also being represented by their Reeves or Mayors and ‘the Chairman of the Fire and Light Comâ€" mittees. â€" Schumachen had three reâ€" presentatives present, and so did South Poreupine. This developed in view of the motomization of ‘fire equipment beâ€" coming so general. _ It was «decided that motor trucks may be used, on sixty days‘ notice to departments to this effect. Special regulations were made regarding drivers in such cases. The Home team using a motor truck are to use their own regular dmiver, the same driver to be used by all the competing teams, as it wou‘d not hbe expected that a valuable motor trucik would be given oven to any. other drivers. There was some discussion in reâ€" gand to the Sutherland â€" Memorial, many present pointing «out that the original intention had been ito have the memorial as a permanent testiâ€" monial of the Association to their deâ€" ceased brother. At present the build ing was on a lot not owned by the Association, and the Association had no definite title. The question will be further gone into ‘by the officers ror the yvear. 4 4. J 1. U AA N .v NeR B Bush Fire Hazard came in for much attention and discussion. . Last year the Government had promised to send Inspectons to investigate bush hazâ€" ards reported by any of the FKire Chiefs. Last year the Inspector had visited towns on the main line of the T. N.O., and Iroquois Falls. The Association â€" thought _ these â€" visits should be repeated this year and that the Poreupine Branch towns also be visited with a view of looking over their Pbash hazards. W t Other suggestions and recommendaâ€"| tions were made in regard to better | fire _ protection, â€" the Association throughoat the whole session showing its special knowledge of conditions in this North Land and its earnest deâ€" sire to protect life and propenty to , the ‘fullest possible extent. Mr.. D. Merkley, Haileybury, was elected a‘ Life Member for his signal senvices to the Association. Before the meeting closed a very hearty vote of thanks and appreciaâ€" tion was passed to Reeve Geo. Gau-l their and the Councillors and officials of Calvert Township and to the Anâ€"} sonville: Fire Chief and Fine ‘Brigade, and the people of Ansonville and Calâ€" vert for the generous hospitality and innumerable courtesies extended to the visiting Firemen. _ The meeting was in Ansonville‘s ‘fine new â€" town hall, where thene was ample accoimâ€" modation and comfort for the meetâ€" ings of the Association. In the evening the Township of Cal vert tendered the visitors a banquet in the Paris Hotel. This event was a most enjoyable one. A mysterious dooking car arrived at South Poreupine last week in fact it wa‘s so mysterious that the Provincial Police had it marked **seized"" about an hour after it landed. Upon investiâ€" gation it was learned that the sleuths had bagged a whole carload of real good beerâ€"Um, Um! Good, but not so good for the dry throats that were all set for the interior decorating. The Car contained 62 boxes of 2000 ‘bottles in all. _ _The Provincials re shipped it back to Toronto for conâ€" fiscation. Some of the residents beâ€" lieve that it would have been much better to confiscate it ‘hene, as it cost the Province $211.82 freight to have it shipped back to Dry Toronto. Anâ€" other sad page in the history of John Barleycorn. d The Porcupine Goldfields Band will give a Concert in the Majestic Theaâ€" tre on Sunday evening, Feb. 22nd., after the church services. This is the first public Concert to be given by this onganization and a dlarge turnout will be expected. _ Several Soloists, etc., have promised to assist in makâ€" ing the Concert one of the best yet held in South Poreupine.
