There were a number of cases for last week‘s police court, but the more serious charges were remanded to this week. _ These more serious. charges are connected with the roundingâ€"up by the police of several women and girls on charges of vagrancy and disâ€" orderly conduct, At police court last week ascouple of the young girls were allowed their liberty on their parents agreeing to take charge of them. One woman accused by two girls of proâ€" curing, or attempting to procure, was a@quitted, the only evidence against her being that of the girls whose testi mony did not seem to be very dependâ€" able. Another young woman is held on a vagrancy eharge and will come up tomorrow (Thursday). Two taxiâ€" drivers, whose homes are in South Poreupine, were arrested last week and are in jail here waiting trial on what are understood to be serious charges arising from alleged compliâ€" city in immoral traffic. Two girls are also in charge of the Children‘s Aid Superintendent, following disclosures said to be made in the police investiâ€" gation. A man who has been living in Timmins for some time past was also placed under arrest in eonnection with the alleged illegal and immoral trafficking. This man may also face another charge of impersonating a police officer, it being alleged that he displayed badges and otherwise posed as a law officer. This man is at presâ€" ent out on bail. Another local man is in the cells, the charge against him arising from information given aâ€" gairst him by two girls around thirâ€" teen years of age. _ Mrs. 0. Jansen was sentenced to a three months term for disorderly conduct, the charge aâ€" rising from her improper behaviour in a place having a standard hotel license. some days previously by the police. Three drunks paid the customary $10 and costs. . A breach of the Motor byâ€"law brought a penalty of $1.00 and ecosts. ‘ ;'(;W The remands, howey er, will likely make it a busy court. * It may be noted that some unfounded stories T0â€"â€"â€"Cadman ...
