This addition to our other fire fighting equipment, our efâ€" forts to dispose of inflammable refuse around the town,. and our rigid inâ€" spection of chimneys, etce., ought to be very helpful in the prevention of loss by fire. The team and hose waggon will still be used in emerâ€" gency cases, and will be kept in the same fit condition all the time, night and day. Our firemen are doing good work, and should be encouraged."" New Liskeard has been buying a little ‘"‘godd luck" in the matter of fire protection. The ‘"‘Juck"" of Timâ€" mins in the matter of fires has been proverbial in this North Land. Other towns in the North have been badly damaged by fire at various times, but Timmins has so far been ‘"‘lucky‘‘ in this respect. There have been fires here, but no fire has been allowed to get away. No fire has travelled farâ€" ther than the building in which i originated. This sort of ‘‘Aluck,"" of course, has been bought and paid for in years past. There may be a slight tendency to neglect to foster ‘‘luck" in fires here at the present moment but no doubt this tendency will pass and the old thoughtful plan of buyâ€" ing ‘"‘luck"" by securing the best posâ€" sible equipment regardless of cost, and having the most effective fireâ€" figchting organization will be reverted to, and the ""‘of the town thus continue. It costs money to have "luck"‘‘ in fires in a town, but it is worth it. New Imnskeard will no doubt‘find it will get as much ‘‘‘Juek"" in this respect as may be purchased by money and attention. The New ILiskeard Speaker last week says :â€" NEW LISKEARD ADDS MOTOR TRUCK TO FIRE EQUIPMENT. The GHobe article is as follows :â€"â€" The usual regular weekly dance will be held this evening. Next week will be a Hallowe‘en Masquerade, when all members are requested to turn out in costume. A committee composed of Misses G. Everett, Mary Bovd and Messrs H. Austin and G. an outstanding success, the one hunâ€" dred members and guests staying unâ€" til _ twelveâ€"thirty when the home waltz was played. In every way Visitor‘s Night was F. Black are looking after the evenâ€" ing‘s entertainment. Miss (G. Everett looked after the refreshments in her usual capable manner, these as usual proving an enjoyable part of the programme. The best of good music for the dancing was provided by the Club Orchestra; Mr. F. J. Wolno, cornet and violin, Mr. Ted Whaley, violin, Mr. G. Torrance, drums, and Mr. W. Devine, piano. The executive of the Club wishes to especially thank the orchestra for their responses to the numerous encores, and to Mr. Wolno for his assistance on the cornet. i The second Visitor‘s Night of this season at the A.S.D, Club last Wedâ€" nesday evening drew the‘ largest crowd, and was probably the most successful event of any of the Club danees this season. _ Fortyâ€"four visiâ€" tors, the majority young married people of the town, were guests of the A.S.D. Club for the â€"evening and all had a very enjoyable time. _ A programme had been drawn up by the Committee in charge of the event Messrs A. E. Riddell, A. W. Pickerâ€" ing and C. G. Pirie, and this gave general satisfaction. The first dance was a fox trot, folâ€" lowed by a waltz and another fox trot, after which the old reliable Paul Jones, under the able direction of Mr. W. Mackie, proved a very popular number. A Moonlight Waltz followed the Paul Jones, after which a new novelty dance was introduced, namely a card dance. Playing cards were distributed to those present, ecach gentleman having to find the lady holding the corresponding card to his from another deck. It was the intention to follow this dance with a broom dance, but the crowd was too large to allow for this. An eliminaâ€" tion dance followed, which proved very popular, several of the rules of this dance being original as well as amusing. _ A lucky number fox trot followed; prizes were awarded to the lucky number holders for this event; Miss Pauline Belanger of South Porâ€" cupine, and Mr. G. 8. Best winning the ladies‘ and gentlemen‘s prizes. A (Gentlemen‘s Tag Waltz proved a very attractive part of the proâ€" gramime.~ _ The lateness of the hour made it impossible to hold an old fashioned square, as had been oriâ€" ginally planned.
