A particulariy attractive feature was fhe boxing of two dustweights, Perey Brisbault and Ronald Hudson, ‘both pupils of the Timmins Athletre ‘Club. ‘The two young lads by their clever work with the gloves reflected «credit on the training given in very ‘limited time ‘by the Timmins Athletic tClub. As a matter of fact, young Hudson never had a set of ‘boxing ‘wloves on until about two weeks ago. In B or‘9 days ‘he was traimed to a degree of effectiveness that made them ‘all sit up and take notice. The dustâ€" ‘weight number was certamly an interâ€" iesting feature. Un account of the coolness of the weather it has not lbeen practical to arrange at once the regular weekly open air concerts for â€"this summer. These open air concerts will be startâ€" ed as soon as the weather settles down Just as a hint to some folks around these parts it may be noted that a Copper Cliff boy was fined $10.00 and eosts last week for illegally netting It is likely that the penalty woud have been an even heavier one had the offender been a grown man .inst?ad of a threeâ€"quarterâ€"grown one. Captain Cornthwaite of the Salâ€" vation Anmy this week received a letâ€" tex from the Territorial I[e.ulqmn'ters. Canada East, S.A., enquiring in reâ€" gard to one (xun(re Wakefield. The lettex says that his parents are nearly distracted â€" because they â€"have not heard from George W akefield for 50 long. The last time he wrote home he gave his address at Timmins P.0., but attemipts to Jocate him here have failed. At the same time letters sent him at Timmins have not been reâ€" turned as uncalled for. He is desâ€" seribed as 40 years of age, 5 ft. 6 inches in height, brown hair, blue eyes, fair comiplexion, English. Anyâ€" one knowing anything albout the missâ€" ing man would be doing a kindly and useful act by giving the information to Capt. Cornthwaite at the Salvation Army here. to summer. In the meantime by special request there will be a band eoncert in the theatre on Sunday evening, June 8th, after the church services. Whe intention is to make this even better than any of the other band concerts that ‘have been so much appreciated during the past seven or eight months. _ There will ‘be new selections by the Timmins Citizens‘ Band, vocal and instrumental selecâ€" tions by local artists of special abilâ€" ity, pleasing motion picture films and other features. A. specially large atâ€" tendance is expected as this Sunday evening Band Concert is being given by special raquest. The main ‘bout of the evening was an 8â€"round bout between Olarence Jessome, of the Timmins Athletic €Club, claimant of the middleweight championship of the North, and W alter \‘pou'tre of England. The genâ€" eral opinion was that here were two yood men who put up a lively contest. Spouge was not in the perfect pink of condition but ‘he showed a lot of class. Jessome was unfortunate in injuring@ ‘his hand in the second round. A swinging right to Npouge‘s head staygered the Englishman to the ropes but it also. badly injured Jessome‘s hand. Spouge was game and came richkt ‘hack for more, but Jessome was ANOTHER BAND CONCERT IN THEATRE SUNDAY NIGHT "The boxing exhibition at the Maâ€" jestic Theatre, South Poreupine, on ‘Thursday Jlast, attracted a good crowd and all â€"attending were pleased with ‘the bouts on the programime. PJL., at least. one of the laiws of the game, with the official definition of such ruling. If there are any enâ€" quiries pertaining to the rules, the same will be duly answered. In giving the official standing of the teams in the Poreupine Football Leaâ€" gue to date the Secretary, Mr. W. A. Field, also contributes to The Advance this week a very interestmg article on the offside rule. The official standing of the teams is as follows :â€" J, E. Garrett Shield Official League Standing to June 4th, 1924 iThe Offside Rule.â€"When a player plays the ball any player of the same side who at such moment of playing is nearer to his opponent‘s goal line is out of â€"play, and may not touch the ‘ball himself, nor in any way whatever interfere with an opponent, or with the play, until the lball has been again played, unless there are at such moâ€" ment of playing at least three of his opponents nearer their own goal line. Play should not be stopped and a player given offside under Law 6 because the pliayer is in an offside position. Would like to point out an error in another local paper pertaining to match played between Lancastrians and Mclntyre. It was stated ‘that Wallace‘s shot from corner kick curlâ€" ed in over the goalkeeper‘s head. This is not the fact of the case. A goal cannot be seored from a cornerâ€"kick. The Schumacher Ratepayers‘ Asâ€" sociation announice a Smoker to be held in the Melntyre Recreation Hall on Monday evening next, June 9th. The programme for the eviening promises to be of unusuat attraction. There will be wrestling, boxing, and other sports, as well as music and comedy. It is to be a big night of entertainment and_ interest.. Schuâ€" macher has in the past shown that it has a noteworthy array of good talent in nearly every lime, and the event Monday evening will further prove this fact. The admission fee has heen set at the nominal figure of half a dollar just to assure a full house, but all may depend upon it that the evening will be worth a lot more. Steve Lynn, for instance, is on the programme and Steve is aliways worth more than the price of admission. Of course, there are many others of equal merit on the ‘list for the evening, some of them being recent additions to the Clamip but all tried and tested and found good. , There should "be a big attendance at the Smoker at Schuâ€" macher Monday night under the ausâ€" pices of the Ratenayers‘ Association. Recently, he applied :0 the Government for an inspection, ‘o satisfy himself and the publrc that the herd were all of the best type and condition.. In the leading part Miss Margery Wilâ€" son proved herself an actress of outâ€" standing ability â€" and great charm. During the evening Mr. L. G. Neville introduced Miss Margery Wilson to the audience, at the, same time reâ€" ferring to his own connection with the stage in years past. [Miss Wilson made a very decided hit with the big crowd with the pleasing little address she made. Miss Margery Wilson is at present inâ€" Timmins with a view to selling stock in a company being formed to produce her next pircture.
