Box 3, Timmins. Timmins, Ont. Last week the estimates for 1924 were brought down in the Dominion House of Commons. According to despatches from Ottawa there is no special provision made for expendiâ€" tures of any account in Northern Onâ€" tario. Among the grants asked in connection with rivers and harbours in Northern Ontario there is included the sum of $12,000 for Haileybury and $1,150 for New Liskeard. Apparentâ€" ly, there is no provision for a new dock at â€" Timmins Landing. â€" During the past three or four years represenâ€" tations have been made to the Goyâ€" ernment emphasing the need for a new dock at Timmins Landing on the Mattagami River. ‘The amount and importance on the river has been pointed out and other information given the (Government in regard to the need here for a new dock, but so far no action has been taken. It was understoodâ€" last year that provision for such a work had ‘hbeen made in the estimates, but if so, the work was sidetracked. The Board of Trade has urged upon the Government at various times the need for the dock here and because there is practically nothing spent in all this area by the Dominâ€" on Government it was believed that the modest request for something like proper docking facitlities might justly receive consideration. .The Dominion Government gathers a large revenue from this part of the North Land: from income tax, sales tax and other forms of direct and indireect taxation. Can anyone point to any recent case where the Dominion â€" Government spent any amount for any work of public benefit in this immediate disâ€" triet? Don‘t all speak at once! The Member forâ€" Temiskaming â€" should make it plain to the House that it is unfair and improper to absolutely disâ€" regard this big section of country in the matter of expenditures. Eceonomy is a fine thing but it should apply to more than one section of country. Very few demands indeed have been made upon ‘the Dominion Government for expenditures in this district. The building of a new dock at the Timmin® landing is a work that should be atâ€" tended to at onee. It is a very necesâ€" sary work and would be of service to large numbers of people and of genâ€" eral advantage to the district as a whole. APPARENTLY NO TIMMINS DOCK IN THE EBSTIMATES ‘‘Pasquale Stallone (Patsy), of Old Forge, near Seranton, was senâ€" tenced by one judge to twelve years‘ imprisonment for second degree murâ€" der, and immediately afterward was sentenced to die in the electric chair for a first degree murder by another judge. _A third murder_ ease is pendâ€" ing against him. Legal dights. are wondering whether Stallone will serve his 12 years before the death sentence is earried out. Stallone, it was charged, invited Lorenza Seâ€" menza, Ralh Wetteri and John Melâ€" Iueci, to his store about a vear ago. An hour later Semenza and Letteri were found shot to death, and Melâ€" lueei fatally wounded. (Mellucei, it is charged, said Stallone sho‘t all three men. ‘Stallone fled and was captured some time later in Northern Ontario. He claimed one of the men had killed the other two, and that he shot in self defense. ‘The state contended the shooting.â€"was the â€"result of a quarrel over whiskey. Stallone was granted a separate trial in each ease, and the first two cases ended some time ago, sentence being deferred until Saturâ€" day. # Forge, Pennsylvania, to take him back there to stand triah for murder. Acâ€" cording to the information given here the crime, or rather the erimes, charged against Stallone occurred on Nov. 6th, 1922, when there was a party at Stalone‘s house in one of the suburbs of Sceranton. Liqnuor was said to have flowed very freely and a quarrel developed. this quarrel Stallone is alleged to have used a gun with the result that three of tha guests were killed. Stallone then left and there was a long hunt for him all over the continent ‘before he was eventually captured at South Poreuâ€" pine. â€"One Seranton newspaper said he had himself shipped out of Old Forge in a cofflin. Wthen arrested in this Camp Stallone did not appear to be a very wicked type of fellow, but he was earefully guarded and reâ€" turned safely to _ Pennsylvania for trial. A despatch from Sceranton, Pennsylvania, last week continues the story as follows :â€" l TO THE ELEGTRIC CHAIR In July of last year ‘‘Patsy‘‘ Stalâ€" lone was arrested at South Poreupine by Chief Chas. Melnnis of Tisdale Township. Stallone was held until two police officers came from Old Man Captured in Porcupine Camp Sentenced in Pennsylvania for Murder of Two. Third Trial Pending. Mr. J. 8. Long is among those atâ€" tending the Prospectors‘ (Classes beâ€" ing ('ondu( ted at Timmins by Dr. W. L. Goodwin. Twentyâ€"four years ago Mr. iLong attended similar classes under the direction of Dr. Good‘win in Western Canada. Last year and in 1‘12‘2 Mr. Long attended Dr. Goodâ€" win‘s classes in this Camp, and Mr. Long speaks in the highest terms of Dr. Goodwm s ability, and the vaine of the classes both now and twentyâ€" four years ago. Evidently Dr. Goodâ€" win stands the Long test, The objections of the Committee centre round the fact that the officers of President and Treasurer are held by one man, the President, and that the business of the company is transâ€" acted from the President‘s brokerage office in New York, instead of the company having independent offices of its own in New York. Further, the Committee claims that the interâ€" ests of the individual shareholder do not receive the careful and efficient attention desired. is also made in the letter to the matter of the transfer of 46,666 shares of the company to be held in trust by the President, with dividends paid thereâ€" on, but the dividends immediately reâ€"paid to the Company. The letter suggests that no such proceeding is necessary and that the explanation of the matter was fallowed by a depreâ€" ciation of the market selling price of the shares of the company. In a word, while having the fullest confidence in the mine and its manâ€" agement, the Committee is apparentâ€" ly dissatisfied with the situation as regards the Board of Directors. Just what justification there may be for such dissatisfaction will no doubt be made plain at the annual meeting when the whole situation will likely be cleared up. ‘The Committee point out in their letter that they have a substantial outright shareholding in Dome Mines, Limited, and already represent many others. They will no. dowbt be heard from at the annual meeting and the result will be a comâ€" plete clearing of the sitnuation. There is the best foundation for a thorâ€" ough understanding and the fullest confidence, as there is no question of the splendid condition of the mine itself or any doubt as to the efficiency and capabbility of the management of the property. The letter says:â€"**From enquiries made the Committee is satisfied that the mine itself is toâ€"day in better condition than at any period of its history, that the mine management is of the best, and that there appears to he no doubt as to the future earning capacity. In the opinion of the Comâ€" mittee, the Board of Directors is alone responsible for the existing> disquietâ€" ing eondition."‘ A civewlar letter sent under date of March 22nd, to Dome Mines shareâ€" holders, states that at the request of a number of Canadian shareholders, a Committee has been formed in orâ€" der that shareholders who are unable to attend the annugal meeting on April 8th may avail themseives of the services of the Committee by sending proxies on forms enelosed with the cireular. The Committee signing the letter includes:â€"A. C. MeMaster, K. C., Toronto; H. C. MeéCloskey, Colbalt: K. Home Smith, .Dr. C. H. Hair, Richard Southam, and W. M. Forest, (secretary), Toronto; L. EXâ€"PREMIER WHO TOOK "PRESENTS.‘" The time is coming, he said, when Canada would take steps to see that the products of wood grown in the Dominion wou‘ld be manufactured enâ€" tirely on the Canadian side of the border. He predicted that the airplane and hbydroâ€"airplane would play a grea{ part in the development of Northern Ontario to its seaboard on the Aretic Ocean. Development ~of the unâ€" touched natural resources of the proâ€" vince was already under way, assisted by capital from the United States and Great Britain, he said, and added that he expected this development to reach an advanced stage within the next few years. He warned against pessimism with regard to Canadian advancement, and deelared that unbounded prosperity lay in the mineral, forest reserve, agâ€" riculturah and water power developâ€" ment of Ontario. At a special lun‘cheon last week of the Canadian ‘Club in New York City, Rev. Canon Cody, of Toronto, formâ€" erly Minister of Education for Onâ€" tario, told the gathering that Ontario is fundamentally sound, and on the ver‘ge of tremendous development, particnlarly in the northern minera} belt. There will be a big rush for these, so ‘‘Shop Early‘‘ will be the right motto. It pays to advertise, says the Goldfield Drug Co.
