VARIETY OoOF CASES AT LAST WEEK‘S POLICE COURT Variety is the spide of Police Court, as the familiar quotation does not say. Last week‘s police court here was spiced all right. There was only the one drunk and he drew the usual reward. Five citizens were duly fined for allowing their horses or catâ€" tle to run at large. After a while the‘ folks wili get it through their heads that ‘horses and cattle are not wanted on the streets of the Town of Timmins. As they dearn this fact, the Town gets a few honest dollars in fines. Same way with the byâ€"laws regarding tyaffic and automobiles. One man was fined last week on two separate counts, and another paid a fine for parking on the wrong side of the street. The police suggest that they will stop having these traffic and auto cases when everybody observes the rules and regulations for the ;safe-ty and convenience of the pubâ€" ;lic. Preliminary hearing was given by Magistrate Atkinson in two cases of men charged with illegally having gold ore in their possession. Joseph Marian, on this charge, was commitâ€" ted for trial before the Judge. Failâ€" ing to obtain the required bail, Marâ€" ian was taken to North Bay last week. He will likely. be tried at an early date by Judge Caron at Cochâ€" rane. A similar charge against A. Gagne resulted in an aequittal. A quantity of gold was found in the safe of Gagne‘s store, but the exâ€" planation was that Marian bhad ‘been foolishly flashing this valuable stuff around street while under the inâ€" Auence of liquor and the, gold had simply been taken‘ from him and placed in the safe for safeâ€"keeping. A young man who had ‘been acting queerly for some days past and eventâ€" ually â€" became dangerously â€" violent, was committed to an asylum. When he was taken down on Friday‘s noon train he created some excitement by battling with the police. Eventually he had to be put in a straight jacket. Constable Oscar Lemieux took the sick man to North Bay, and on the trip had trouble with ‘his patient more than once, but by a combination of streneth and diplomaey eventually landed the man at his destination at the Bay. man OT only bhave Bellingham, Wash., and Victoria, B.C., been brought into closer connection and more friendly relations by the recent inauguration of a ferry motor transport service by the new Canadian Pacific "Motor Princess", but western tourists as a whole have been provided with a new route to the Capital City of British Columbia, and one that has the alluring charm and refreshing diversion of a three and a half hours‘ water trip.
