It is the intention to give a similar Bband concert Friday evening at the grounds during the summer months. Weather and other condiâ€" tions permitting the Band will give another open air concert Friday evenâ€" ing of this week. 7# Thanks to the goo@ work of Presiâ€" dent Cadman and Secretary Faithful of the Grounds Committee the Band had a proper place to play, the band stand being repaired, lights put in and seats arranged. + At the request of Iroquois Falls yesterday, it was decided to postpone the baseball match in the district leaâ€" gue scheduled for the Falls toâ€"day. It was inconvenient for the Fallls to have the game ‘toâ€"day and the Timâ€" mins boys agreed to deferring the match to accommodate the Paper Town. Citizens‘ Band gave the first of its open air ‘band concerts this season on the Athletic grounds on Friday night last. There was a big erowd out, and all enjoyed the good music wellâ€"rendered by the Timâ€" mins Citizens Band. The applause from the stands after each selection and the comments of those present showed that the work of the Band was much appreciated. There was a large attendance of the Band memâ€" bers, and ‘they rendered an attractive musical programme of over an hour‘s duration. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20TH, 1923. These Hollinger ~Community Club dances are proving unusually popular and pleasing. The Ice Cream Dance on Friday evening last was a big success. There was a big crowd and everybody shad a dandyâ€" time. T‘he music by the Holly Orchestra was a feature. The Gingham Dancee on Saturday of this week will likely ‘be even more successful. There will be good music, a nice line of refreshâ€" ments, and everything else will be up to the high standard being set by Holâ€" linger Community Club events. ance At 2.30 this (Wednesday) morning Dr. R. H. Brown was awakened, probâ€" ably by the sound of breaking glass, and found his residence, at the corner of Pine street and Fourth Avenue, full of smoke and fire. He was alone in the house, his family being away on a visit, and he hastily made his way outside through a window and gave the alarm of fire. The brigade responded to his first call and quietly but quickly and effectively got in their wood work. The fire had considerable headway being by this time well unâ€" der way in kitchen, dining room and bedroom. The ‘blaze was promptly extinguished by the brigade, but not before more than $2,000 damage had been done to the house and contents through fire, smoke.and water. Among the more expensive articles to be badâ€" ly damaged was a highâ€"class piano. Other furniture and furnishings in the house were also destroyed, the light construction of the building and the headway gained by the fire beâ€" fore discovery being primary factors in causing the serious damage. The origin of the fire is not known, the fire having such a headway when disâ€" covered that theories as to its original cause are naturally uncertain. Many at the Goldfields and other nearby places were awakened by the fire and some were alarmed when they saw the flames shooting out from the house.l Others slept peacefully through the fire. The loss is covered ‘by insurâ€". FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE TO HOUSE AND FURNITURE She will tell you the past and presâ€" ent, even your character. No matter how many times you have had your paim read, have it read again. She will give you good advice. Don‘t fail to see this Great Lady. â€" She will tell you the truth. J a e m l Some excitement was eaused last night by the ringing of the fire bell shortly after nine o‘ciock. The alarm was from Box 51, one of the new boxes just installed. Inside of a few minutes there were literally thousands of people on the streets, there ‘being a special nervousness these days in reâ€" gard to fire. The fire team made a record getaway from the hall, but owing to a twist in the harness the team had to be stopped on Cedar street and the harness adjusted. This caused a few seconds‘ delay, but in the run down to Mattagami the new peppy team more than made up this little loss. The fire was at 17 Main street, Mattagami, and had no headway before the brigade got to it. The people had been fighting it with water, and the brigade gave it the knockâ€"out with a dose from the chemical ‘tank. The fire was caused by a lamp igniting a towel hanging on a wall, the flames running up the parâ€" tition. The damage done was not serious, prompt attention avoiding loss and danger alike.
