The entertainment given hy the Del Mar Ladies Quartette at the New Emâ€" pire Theatre on Monday evening was something decidedly special. Music lovers in town who ‘heard the Del Mar Ladies Quartette on Monday evening are enthusiastic in their praise of both the vocal and ipstrumental numbers, while equally high commendation was won by one, of ‘tlre young ladies for her original and specially talented work as anvelocutionist. Perhaps the highest compliment paid the Del Mar Quartette was the fact that a number who dheard them last week in South Poreupine travelled out here Monday »vening specially to hear this.concert party again. The general verdict is that they were worth it. The Del Mar Quartette are vocalists and instruâ€" mentailists of striking ‘talent. Their selections in costume were a big feaâ€" ture Monday evening. They play the piano, the ‘cello, the violin and the cornet; they sing classical and catchy vocal music with wellâ€"blended and wellâ€"trained voices. They give elocuâ€" tionary selections and specialties that delight. In brief, they present a high class concert programme, bright and snappy, yet of the better type, and the hour‘s entertainment does not seem to ‘ast more than about fifteen minutes. It is actually just that good. In addâ€" ition to the Del Mar Ladies Quartette thevre were the uswal pictures at the Theatre Monday evening. ‘The Del Mar Quartette.is one of the Dominion Chautauqua offerings that deserves more attention . andâ€" commendation *han it has received. * Mr. John Power has purchased an eclegant new steamer to take the place of the boat unfortunately destroyed by fire this summer. The new steamer arrived this week, and it certainly is a beauty. It was originally completâ€" ed: for the Masseyâ€"Trebles of, Toronâ€" to and used by them as a pleasure boat on Lake Ontario. Mr. Frank W. Callahan, a Toronto barrister, recentâ€" ly purchased it from the Masseyâ€" Treble estate, and Mr. Power bought it from Mr. Callahan. It is named the Minga, and is 67 ifeet overâ€"all. It is handsomely equipped and furnished. The éabin is wellâ€"appoinfed and large and there are all conveniences on the boat. The cabin is steamâ€"heated by a small coil system and everything else for comfort and appearance has apâ€" parently been thought of. The engine FINE NEW STEAMBOAT PURCHASED BY MR. POWER. in the boat was specially designed for the Masseyâ€"Trobles. Adjoining the catin there is a toilet with hot and eold water, wash basin, ete. Another special feature of the boat‘s equipâ€" ment is the little kitchen, equipped with all modern conveniences for cook ing for parties using the steamer. The cabin has a very attractive appearâ€" ance, ard this feature alone should make the Minga popular during the cominz summer. The promenade deck is a darge one for the size of the boat, and the Minga will be able to accomâ€" modate many more than the Steamer Agnes. Mr. Power purposes keeping the Minga exclusively for passenger service, another boat to be equipped for freighting. WThe Minga will cerâ€" tainly be an aecquisition to the pleas ure and comfort of the Mattagami River next season. The last water trip taken by the Minga was from Toronto to Montreal. The engineer who acompanied the boat to Timmins said it was a ‘pleasâ€" ant and speedy trip. The boat was shipped here by rail from,Montreal. The engineer accomparied it here, traâ€" velling in the cabin and sleeping there He says he had a rough passage in spots» (Going around some .of the famous T. N. O.tcurves proved to him that nothing could ever make him seasick. Also when the train wou!ld suddenly alter speed, the jar would make the boat fairly jump on the flat car on which it was packed. Much of the time he felt like singing, * Someâ€" body‘s rocking #Â¥he boat,"" but the steamer is stoutly built and ‘staunch and it was well packed on the car, so the boat and engineer landed here safely and satisfactorily.
