Section8â€"From the Matabitchawan River, following the old Temiskaming Road to Widdifield. Fifty miles. Last week TIroquois Falls organized its Hockey Club for the season, with the following officers:â€"Hon. Presidâ€" entâ€"Mr. F. H. Anson, Sr.; honorary viceâ€"presidents, R. A. Melnams, L. R. Wilson, Wâ€"C. Zieman, H. D. Bean and W. H. Smith ; president, Gordon Thisâ€" tlewaite; viceâ€"preosident, Clark Davis; secretaryâ€"treasurer re; committee, Blake Ryan, A. R. Ken dall, W Brydge. The new rink and how it was to be riun awere among the it was to be riun were amon?g Lne most interesting subjects discussed by the meoting. iMr. R. A. Melnnis, Gen eral Managor of the Abitib Co., anâ€" nounced that after the rink was built the Company w oald turn it over to the. Townsite. Of ])dltl(‘lh.ll’ interest to sports enthusiasts in Timmins is the attitude of Mr. Melnnis in regard to sports. There has always been an idea in Timmins that Iroquois Falls went into Baseball and hockey, regard less of the cost,â€"that players were im ported no matter what it ‘eost, and that the pace was thus set for nearâ€" professionalism in sports. The Adâ€" vance has suggested on several occaâ€" skons that this idea was not supported by the facts. The truth seems to be that the Abitibi chas given the fullâ€" est encouragement to all wholesome !flpoxt: but has steered away as far as possible from paying men for playing games alone. Mr. Melnnis made it i(‘l(JI that the attitude of the Company is to foster and encourage clean amâ€" ateur sport, but that every man brougkt to the plant and placed in position had to fill that position and to earn ‘his money the same as other employees. To quote from the report of the Broke Hustler on the meetâ€" ing :â€"*‘*He also said that players who held jobs in the mill must make good at their jobs. They were welcome to the positions, but they must do real work, jast as the baseball men ‘had * dOfle. * The new rink at Iroquois Falls is to be large and upâ€"toâ€"date. The ice surfâ€" ace will be 75 by 175 feet, with roundâ€" ed eorners. The seating capacity will be 1000 with standing room for 400 more. â€" The posts supporting the roof are all to be behind the seats so that triey will not interfere with the view of the speetators. â€" Beside the main en trance there are to be two emergenecy exits, one at each end. ‘There will be two dressing rooms in front, with water, etce., for the home teams, and ore at the other end for the visiting teams. These will be used for the summer sports as well. ‘There will be two sheets of ice for curling at the low er end of the rink, with a room with a glass front from which to watch the games. There is accommodation for the band over the front dressing rooms. The erection of=the rink is expected to be rushed to completion at the earliest possible date. The secretary of the Iroquois Falls Hockey Club has written H. P. Charlâ€" ton, secretary of the N. 0. H. A., askâ€" ing for information about the League plans for this year and the date of the meeting so that delegates may be sent from the Falls. STENCGRAPHER WANTEDâ€"One BA [.:J t a741 y with ing.
