Last\ week a survey of the land‘around the river in the vieinity of the present landing place was made by an officer of the Department of Public Works. ‘This means that in about ten days from the receipt of the petition the Department at Ottawa got busy and surreying for the necessary work was ecommenced here. 1f the same speed is shown throughout, the people of this district will bhe greatly pleased indeed. HMowever, there is often much â€" delay between the _ original survey and the actual construetion work, but it is hoped that the present ease will be an exception. Before the war there was provision made in the estimates for the building of a wharf at the Mattagami River. The.stress of the war, however, upset all plans and nothing was further done in conâ€" neetion with this very necessary) public work. For that matter, by the way, surveys were made for a railroad line Ttom Timmins to near Sudbury to connect with the C. N. R., but since then the matter of building this very desirable dine has proceeded no fturâ€" ther. lt is to be hoped that the dock ut Timmins will not be iu the same class. The work is certainly a very desirable and necessary one. There ‘s an uuusu’allv large traffic on the aver here, with no proper or convenâ€" ent landing place. The convenience t the public and the good business of he proposition should induce prompt uttention from the authorities to this dlock and its carly eonstruction. The mulding of the steel bridge over the "iver at the landing place has been a decided advantage to the settlers and the industries along the river. For this the Old Ontario Government may be thanked. Hon. Howard Ferguson oromised a substantial and Sometimes (Government departments move ‘with commendable speed. .A ease in point is that of the dock at the Mattagami River. A couple of weeks ago a largely signed petition was forâ€" warded from Timmins to the Departâ€" ment of Public Works at Ottawa askâ€" Following a recent visit of the directors of rowing up down at the River, a s serving the settlers to much a we. _ The River is now a regular hive of industry. ‘ and with uate docking facilities it will h« more Hourishing eentre. ‘Published ‘every Woednesday by ell fulfi xisiting illited. in Oanada » United States Office 26 aIamo projp 1 ] #* Geo.
