BLIND PIGS HAVIMG THEIR NES OPEXEHD Special Provincial Men Have Number of Cases in Timmins. For some weeks past two men hired by the Province have been investigatâ€" ing the places where liquor was illeâ€" gally handled in Timmins, and the result was partly shown in Thursday‘s nolice court. _ Dan Legaey was fined s3 und eosts; Charette Bros., $200 anid costs each; Mick Mortage, $200 aid costs; M. Hurtibhise, $50 and costs and a Polack living near the Skating Rink was fined $500 and costs. The Case against Hurtibise was out of the ordinary, as he was fined for **‘conâ€" suming liquor‘‘ in a public place. Acâ€" cording to the evidence he had simply taken a drink when a round was hought by another manâ€"one of the special Provincial men. The charge against Hurtibuse was reduced from the more serious one of having lhiquor illegally in a public place. The chief ecvidence in all these Provincial cases was @iven by the special men. Charâ€" ette Bros. pleadedâ€"giuilty. Jn each cast there were other charges that were no pressed,. Legacy escaped from custo | dy early Friday morning. The case of illegally selling liquo: preferred against Rachel Popovite who lives with one of the men con vieted, was withdrawn. A warran was issued for the arrest of Joe Blow: on a liquor charge. At present h seems to be away. Constable Rayeroft thad John Per nar charged with beating his wife Pernar had given her a bad pair 0 black eyes. Magistrate Atkinson gav Pernar six month in jail. Jacobh Freed failed to answor to his name when called upon to answer to the charge of theft preferred by W R. Lowery. If he does not answe: before the June assizes his bail oi $1000 will be forfeited. â€" A. Biscornet, charged with selling. gold ore, pleaded guilty and asked for lenieney. _ Magistrate Atkinson reâ€" served sentence until this week. Constable Greer had Tom Koslo and Jdlin Skelvitch before the Magistrate for being drunk and disorderly. The fine was $10 and costs each.. Conâ€" stable Greer also had a charge of illeâ€" gally selling liquor against Joe Durâ€" eski. Magistrate Atkinson fined Durâ€" eski $300 and costs. Chief Clark had Constant Gregors in custody for failing to report as an alien enemy. _ He claimed to be a Roumaman, and \Lwhtxato Atkinson remanded him for a weéék to secire proof. He was allowed out on $100 Dbail. Constable Melnunis had Sam Popinâ€" dusky and Alex. Evandusky before the O. St. Pierre and John St. Pierre wore turned over to the Military auâ€" thorities by Magistrate Aikinson. The first named had been given opportunâ€" ity previously to secure this birth cerâ€" tificate to show that he was under age as che claimed. Both young men exâ€" pressed their willingness now to go into the Army. Sam Saschueck, who obtained $200 for cheques that proved worthless was given six months in jail to think noblâ€" er ways of getting money. Nelson Perron, on a charge of hayâ€" ing in his possession stolen goods was w@iven aother week‘s remand on bail. The lads charged with stealing *‘a shrub or underbrush"* were remanded for another week. Mamie Russell charged with keepâ€" inz a disorderly house pleaded not guilty. The only evidence to sustain the charge was that of Joe Paris who claimed he ‘had been taken there by a man whom he called ‘*Joe the Polâ€" ack‘‘ and whom he identified as Joe Gilbert. As Paris, however, was inâ€" toxicated at the time of his alleged visit and as he could not find the place the. next day for the police his evidence was not conclusive.
