Chief Craft returned home on Thursday after spending a couple of weeks in Haileybury hospital. _ He was enjoying the Dominion Day holiâ€" day in Cobalt, when he found it neeâ€" essary to go to the hospital. _ The trouble, according to the doctors, goes back as far as two years ago, when the Chief was battered around the chest and back while attempting to arrest four men. He felt the batterâ€" ing at the time, of course, but he did not think seriously about it, especially as there seemed to be noâ€" illâ€"effects after a few weeks. It appears now, however, that some of the blood vesâ€" sela in the chest were ruptured, and this caused the recent illness that laid up the Chief presxous to Dominion: Day. The reâ€"opening of the ruptured blood vessels at Cobalt necessitated his visit to the hoapital. The treatâ€" ment given there, however, remedied the trouble and with a rest of a month or two the doctors promise Chief Créft that he will be better than evâ€" er.â€" His imany friends in the Camp and district will wish Chief Craft a complete and speedy recovery. Mr. Geo. McLean, of the D. Ostrosâ€" ser Co. staff, is spending a holiday in the south. Miss Margaret Boyle, of South Forcupine, has been the guest for a few days of her friend, Miss Jean Duff. One of the best motion pictures shown here for some time was "Broadway Jones,‘‘ as presented at the New Empire, Friday and Saturâ€" day last. The new serial, ‘‘Patria,‘‘ featuring Mrs. Vernon Castle, also promises to be interesting and pleasâ€" ing. As will be noted by the big advt. elsewhere in this issue, G. W. Groves Co., Toronto, are putting on a sale to close out the whole $10,000 stock of Murtagh Ryan. The prices quoted in the advt. are the kind that will make the goods move â€" quiekly. The sale opens toâ€"morrow morning, and promises to be a big event. G. Andronchue, an alien enemy who had failed to report, was picked up by Acting Chief Sally, and fined on Saturday by Mr. H. 6. Montgomery, J.P., the rate being $10 and costs for the offence. After a time the alien enemies may learn that the police inâ€" tend to see that they fulfil their unâ€" dertakings. In the meantime the fines may help a little in keeping down the tax rate. The police raided a cheerful little caming party on Sunday, and as consequence on . Monday Mr. H. E. Montgomery, J.P., fined Pit Zebruk, Z. Zurgenski and E. Procewich $5 and costs each, making the total tax levy $10.50 in each case. ‘Tom Pretuta who was also under a similar charge was acquitted. The three fined paid up, and all went their ways, cheerâ€" ful and goodâ€"humored.
