In an article in ‘*‘Flying‘* of recent issue, a writer gave this thnilling acâ€" count: On the Eastern Front chewâ€" ing gum has been found the finest anâ€" tidote for the Airman‘s airâ€"sickness and it was the regular practice in our detachment to take a large mouthful wherever we were bound on a long reconnaissance. The habit was the direct means of saving one of our machines from falling into the hands of the enemy. Tho machine had been heavily sholled and a fragment of shrapnel penetrated the petrol tank. The petrol came pouring out at a rate that would have brought the machine down before the pilot could ulave got back to our own lines, had lhe not suddenly thought of his chewâ€" inz gcum.. With this he stopped the flow and succeeded in getting hback to safety. Now for the sequel:~ Messrs. Wrigâ€" ley‘s Litd., London, recently received the following letter:â€" Moray Lodge, Campden Huill, Lonâ€" don: With reference to enelosed parâ€" agraph, as I was the pilot in quesâ€" tion who was fortunate enough to be chewing gum when my petrol tank was picreed, I beg to indorse _ this statement. I consider your gum an excellent antidote for â€" airâ€"sickness, nerves and the boredom that everyâ€" one suffers from on longâ€" distance flights. The above and a subsequent effort obtained for me the award of the Military Cross. Yours faithfully, H. G. F. Bellamy. How‘s that for an example of Gumâ€"ption ? Bishop Fallon is incensed because London City Council has cut off a $3,000 grant to St. Joseph‘s Hospital supposedly as a reprisal for a hbitter attack the Bishop made upon Lloyd George at a recent public meeting. Bishop Fallon says he has no quarrel with Orangemen but suggested plots against him in some unnamed quarâ€" ters. He also is reported as hinting that Catholice institutions in London maxy be moved to Windsor or Sandâ€" wich, Ont. Young, F. J. FOR YOUR LIFE !
