C O M E T O T H E S O U R C E TR A N Q U IL R ID E : The riding was easy on the Triller Viaduct for these two cyclists but it will be a different story tomorrow when the 1999 version of the Bell Canadian Open really begins at Glen Abbey Golf Course. Among those participating will be Canadian Mike Weir. OM B g r a n ts o ff ic ia l s ta tu s the same area. Home Depot's plan has been turned down twice by the Town of Oakville - once at Committee of Adjustment, a second time on May 10th, when Council voted against Home Depot's bid to amend the Official Plan and change zoning. STOP members are worried about the proximity of area schools and the impact Home Depot may have on them, largely due to safety concerns over traffic. Members are also con cerned that small residential streets such as Lindsay Drive and Ridgewood Court will be adversely affected by increased traffic. Parkridge Road residents, whose homes would back on to the Home Depot store, are worried about light, noise, safety and a lack of privacy. STOP also maintains that this is not simply a Glen Abbey issue but one that will affect residents using the Dorval Drive exit ramp off the QEW, the high way itself and all roads feeding into the proposed site, such as Speers Road, Third and Fourth Line and West Oak Trails. (C o n tin u e d from page 1) "Whether we use that or not I don't know, but at least it gives us the flexi bility," said Gelder. The Glen Abbey Residents Association (GARA) was also on hand at the pre-hearing and received partici pant status, as did one individual Glen Abbey Resident. "About 20 people in total showed up from the Glen Abbey area," said Gelder, who explained the pre-hearing took over four hours to complete. "We had a very good turnout." The development company Norstar owns the land in question, which is on the North Service Road between Dorval Drive and Fourth Line. Home Depot is proposing to buy the land and build a store there if Norstar can change the prestige industrial zoning to accom modate a big box store. STOP members have "serious con cerns" about noise, traffic and safety issues for area residents and want the proposal stopped. Residents are also worried that approval of the Home Depot site will be precedent-setting and allow other big box stores to open in 3 to Choose From Regular cab, 3.0 Litre V6 automatic, cloth bench seat 60x40 split, AM/FM stereo w/dock, securi-lock, all season tires and more.
