The talent was overwhelming but 38 play­ ers had to be whittled down to 18 for the under-13 regional girls soccer team, which is a step towards being chosen a member of the Ontario under-14 team. Donaldson says he has pooled together many teams, both at the house league and rep levels, but this time was particularly difficult because of the overall skill level. Donaldson, a former professional soccer player in England and Scotland, longtime member of the Oakville Soccer Club and head coach of the Peel Halton Soccer Association, began scouting way back in the spring and, for his team, drew players from Mississauga, Bolton and Dixie clubs as well Oakville. Players were chosen for their skills, determination, attitude and discipline. From Oakville, there are two members of the Oakville Angels, Kara Lang and Marisa Videc, and two members of the Oakville Cobras, Karen Zmirak and Erica Taugher. Lang and Zmirak were selected as for­ wards because of their scoring ability and for­ ward position skills, which they've certainly displayed, of late. On Friday, they won their home opener at Ice Sports Oakville 4-3 over Buffalo Lightning. On Sunday at noon, they competed in the league's annual college showcase tour­ nament in M ississauga and in a d ivi­ sional cross­ over game, lost 7-3 to Stouffville. The Blades continued the young season last night (Tuesday)in M ississauga against the Chargers (the game went beyond our Wednesday deadlines). This week­ end, the Blades host a pair of home games.
