Friday, October 1, 1999 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER 25 FIRE P R E V E N T IO N 1 9 9 9 Fire Prevention Officers WHAT DO THEY DO? • The Fire Prevention Division consists of: a Chief Fire Prevention Officer (CFPO), Assistant Chief Fire Prevention Officer (ACFPO), four Fire Prevention Officers, a Plans Examiner and a Fire Prevention Secretary. Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.(mon.-ffi.) • A principal task is to enforce the Provincial Fire Code and other related legislations. • Look into various causes and concerns re: complaints. • The determination of causes of fires, acting as an Assistant to the Fire Marshal under The Fire Protection and Prevention Act. The Fire Prevention Officers administer many programs: • Learn Not To Bum (LNTB) • Risk Watch • Seniors Fire Safety • The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) • Various community events such as Waterfront Festival, Hands Across the World, Midnight Madness, Com Feast, etc. • School, seniors groups and carehome visits • Corporate lectures on office and plant safety • Fire Prevention Week and the Fire Crews also do: • Home Awareness Program (home inspections) • Industrial/Retail Inspections Program • Station tours • Street parties • Station visits • Rescue demonstrations: out of cars, high-angle rope rescue • Assist in Fire Drills at Hospitals, Offices and Factories, Special Care Homes and Schools For more information, contact the Fire Prevention Office at 338-4404.
