Police also confirmed both the victim and the ac­ cused were living inde­ pendently at the Sheldon Avenue residence. Shortly after the wom­ an's death, the Town of Oakville confirmed Wil­ son had been a town bylaw enforcement officer and chair of Oakville's proper­ ty standards committee. She worked for the Town of Oakville for a to­ tal of 23 years, from 1986 until her retirement in 2009. "This is a difficult time for staff who knew her," said Lesley Patel, commu­ nications adviser with the office of the mayor and council in 2015. Wilson's death prompt­ ed flags at town facilities to be lowered to half-mast as well as a statement from Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "I am deeply saddened by the loss of retired Town of Oakville employee and community member Judy Wilson," he said. "After serving 23 years in the areas of parking, by­ law enforcement and li­ censing with the town, she continued doing commu­ nity work, presently serv­ ing as chair of the proper­ ty standards committee. Her dedication and en­ thusiasm to Oakville was compelling. Judy touched the lives of many of our staff and community members. She will be greatly missed." January 15 saw the se­ lection of the jury for Porte's trial, which is made up of seven men and five women. Two alternate jurors, one man and one woman, were also chosen. The trial was set to con­ tinue this week with Miller's opening instruc­ tions to the jury and Jago's opening statement. The Crown was expected to be­ gin presenting evidence Tuesday.
