COMMUNITY Gymnast thrilled with experience at worlds Metroland file photo Mackenzie Robinson of the Oakville Gymnastics Club represented Jamaica at the FIG world championships in Montreal last October. KEVIN NAGEL knagel@burlingtonpost.com Mackenzie Robinson of the Oakville Gymnastics Club (OGC) heads into 2018 hoping to take advantage of the experience of re presenting Jamaica at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal last October. Robinson is preparing for the 2018 Common wealth Games in Australia in April. There were 80 countries and 500 gymnasts in Mon treal at the seven-day event held at Olympic Stadium. Robinson was the only fe male representative for Ja maica at the worlds. The ar rival of her OGC coach, Monica Covacci, made her feel more comfortable with the prospect of representing her country by herself. The biggest thrill for Robinson was walking into the stadium and waving when they introduced the Jamaican athletes at open ing ceremonies. Her competition rota tion included girls from Denmark and Croatia. On day one, she competed in the first subdivision of five, including a strong Great Britain team that featured 2016 Olympic bronze floor medallist Amy Tinkler. Robinson ended the day with four solid routines, but fell short of qualifying for finals. "I feel absolutely amaz ing about my performance. I don't think I would change anything," Robin son said on her return. "Even though every part of it wasn't perfect, I learned so much and had a great time."
