HOCKEY 43 Buzzers snap Blades' three-game winning streak Ricketts scores overtime winner against Markham The St. Michael's Buzzers scored three unanswered goals to down the Oakville Blades 4-2 Sunday, Jan. 7. The Blades built a 2-1 lead in Sunday's Ontario Junior Hockey League game on goals by Spencer Kersten and Teth Buries, but Oakville native Ty Jackson tied the game for the Buzzers with a power-play goal before the end of the second period. St. Mike's took its first lead of the game 7:29 into the third and sealed the win with an empty-net goal. The loss spoiled Oakville's bid for a perfect weekend after it won Friday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 6. Jack Ricketts scored in over­ time and Christian Purboo made 25 saves as the Blades won their third straight, edging Markham 2-1 Saturday. Oakville dominated overtime, outshooting the Royals 10-1, be­ fore Ricketts scored 1:04 in the second extra period. Matthew Kellenberger picked up his sec­ ond assist of the night on the goal. The Blades' Callum Jones opened the scoring with three minutes to play in the first peri­ od. It remained that way until the third when Markham tied it up with seven minutes left in regula­ tion. With the win, Purboo im­ proved to 11-1-1 this season. Oakville, 29-10-3, moved to within two points of the Toronto Patriots for first place in the South Division and first place overall in the league. Friday, the Blades built a 4-0 lead and then held off a charge by the Pickering Panthers to win 4-3. Kellenberger scored twice for Oakville while Peyton Reeves and Mack Graham had Oakville's other goals. Thomas Maia, Jeff Clarke and Andrew McIntyre each had two assists. Chris Elliot made 25 saves for the win. Oakville plays host to the Au­ rora Tigers Friday, Jan. 12 at Six­ teen Mile Sports Complex.
