Plumm er, w ho w as originally cast as a m em ber o f the ensem ble, took over the role, in the nostalgic teen age love story set at hctional Rydell H igh School during the '50s, ju s t prior to Christm as. T he original Grease opened on Broadw ay in 1971 and w as m ade into a feature hlm in 1978 w ith Jo h n Travolta and O livia New ton-John. D avid G alpern and Charles Roy are the producers this Canadian re vival, w hich also stars Jan e l Parrish (Pretty Little Liars) as Sandy and K a tie F indlay (How to Get Away with Murder) as Rizzo. The show 's director is Jo sh Prince (Beautiful, The Carole King Musi cal; Shrek, The Musical), w ith m u sical direction by three-time D ora Award nom inee Elizabeth Baird (Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia, The Little Prince). "I w as sh ocked ," said Plumm er, in a phone interview with the Oakville Beaver, after hearing he landed the role. "I w as very excited .. . and I'm grateful for the opportunity." O riginally Dylan S. W allach had been cast in the lead role, bu t he fell ill and needed som e tim e to recover. A lthough the 22-year-old Plum m er had understudied the role o f Danny, the situation o f becom ing the lead actor never crossed his m ind. He credits the "incred ible faculty" at Sheridan for preparing him for the role, including one professor w ho taught a course on being an understudy. Performing a rush A lthough he w as very ac tive in sports while grow ing up, Plum m er says he didn't consider becom ing a per form er until trying out for play at h is high school. The experience had him hooked. "It's a ru sh ," says Plum mer, referring to perform ing on stage. "I love the w ay m usic the atre m oves m e." "It's been quite the ride," since graduating from Sheri dan College last April, says Plumm er, adding that he grateful to be a w orking per- form er since then. Before being cast to the en sem ble in Grease - The Mu sical, P lum m er w as Sky in Mamma Mia! w ith Rainbow Stage and w as in ensem ble of Drayton Entertainm ent's production o f Marathon of Hope.
