New hours at Oakville libraries A s of Jan. 2, 2018, all Oakville Public Library (OPL) branches will run new hours of operation.With the slight modification of schedules, the library will see an overall increase of hours across the system, providing customers with more opportunities to utilize the library's facilities, services, and resources. The proposed change to hours came after a review of branch data suggested an increasing demand for service in the library's northern branches. OPLs Board of Directors supported the library's proposal this past October, giving the green light to move ahead with plans. Using the library's new RFID technology to record branch traffic and item circulation, in addition to statistics on program attendance, OPL staff were able to compare branch data to develop a schedule of hours that would support the needs of its customers. The data collected from the branches demonstrated a large demand for service at OPL's northern branches, confirming that over 50 per cent of its customers used Glen Abbey (GA) and Iroquois Ridge (IR). With this information, staff proposed a slight schedule modification that focused on increasing access to its branches in the north. In total, the Glen Abbey, Iroquois Ridge, and Clearview (CV) branches will receive additional hours to help service the growing need, while the Central (CE), Woodside (WS), and White Oaks (WO) will maintain consistent service and run on a slightly condensed schedule. The new hours will also transition through the summer, eliminating the library's previous summer schedule, but overall increasing the total system-wide hours of operation throughout the year, providing customers with more access to library services and simplifying the confusion around summer hours and summer staff schedules. Although the total number of operational hours in the summer will not change, the Clearview Branch will switch its Monday and Wednesday evening hours to daytime hours.
