The Wine Spectator voted Jonathans as having "one of the most outstanding wine lists in the world" for 1999. As a testament to this, Jonathan Alikakos, proud founder of this exquisite restaurant, is halfway around the world visiting wineries. Jonathan is looking into bringing new wines into his restau rant, as part of his continuous effort to expand his world renowned wine cellar. After spending time in California, then additional well-spent time in France and Italy, he will be bring ing his new extensive wine knowledge back with him, to ben efit his restaurant and his clientele. As collecting wines has become a popular hobby all through the country, Jonathans has become a place where you can educate yourself via knowl edgeable staff and other clientele. Wines are an investment for the future, a wine cellar like Jonathans doesn't develop over night, it has taken 20 years of dedication and passion to become what they are today. Master blender Bernard Hine, of Hine Cognac, visited recently from France, offering many tips and valuable information regarding cognacs. After stepping through the front door of this 18 year old estab lishment, you can't help but be captured by the pure intimacy in the air, the romantic atmosphere. It's no wonder they were also voted "Most Romantic" and "Best Ambiance". It's really no wonder, after experiencing the menu, the wines, and the seven separate dining rooms, why this example of elegance won "Best Restaurant Overall" . The renovations completed in the Spring of '98 have been well-received by the public, and fairly well used. The various private dining rooms (that can seat anywhere from six to 60) are used by most major corporations from Hamilton to Toronto, and serve many corporate functions and weddings.
