8 f No date set for RCGA decision (Continued from page 1) "We're just evaluating our opportu nities at this stage," Ross said in an interview. "If it goes away by the end of the year because of opposition, then it goes away." The RCGA is seeking to create a new home and national training centre that would likely include two 18-hole golf courses, a nine-hole course, as well as a headquarters for the employ ees and a Canadian Golf Museum. He said the hope is to create the new RCGA headquarters somewhere within 30 minutes of Toronto. The site would require at least 200 hectares (just under a third of the existing park), including parking for those times when it will host the Bell Canadian Open. Ross doesn't know when the final decision will be made on a GTA site. "I suppose it depends on how complex the lahd deal is going to be." The Royal Canadian Golf Association is the governing body of the amateur level of the sport, and is responsible for junior programs and initiatives to develop golf. Glen Abbey is an 18-hole course, but was sold in favour of developing a national training centre, including other centres in Montreal, Calgary and the one being located somewhere in the GTA. Ross said the project might also require nearby elements such as a 250-room hotel and conference centre, perhaps in a joint venture partnership with the RCGA.
